Glowing Ball of Magic

I originally posted this in the LDoN section. However, being this is an item problem and not an adventure problem, I've decided to post this message here instead.

Merchant Sold LDoN Aug - Incorrect Focus Effect:

Zone: The Hidden Vale
Merchant: Treasures ( 200 LDoN point cost Augments )
Item: Glowing Ball of Magic

Comparing this to the other merchant sold "Magic" line of LDoN augs:
I did find that the others had magic based damage modifiers as opposed to fire.
The other Magic line of LDoN augs had the name "Thunder" associated with it's
Focus effect as you can see below.

*Post March 23rd, 2011 Patch Update Observation*

The Glowing Ball of Magic has been changed to the proper focus.
The focus seems to work as intended thus far. I've only tried this
with the direct damage spell "Order" as of this posting. The the damage
modifier is consistent with a 59.967% increase in damage output with the
direct damage spell "Order." The damage does scale with critical blasts.

This percentage was obtained by dividing the actual base damage
( non critical spell damage = 1950) by the spell description damage (1219).

Calculation: 1950/1219 = 1.59967 ~ 60% increase in damage.

Post Patch Result:

Thank you for your attention on this matter and fixing this item.

Thanks for the detailed formatting. Good catch on the focus! Fix will go live with next reboot.

Since we are on the topic of LDoN augs. Perhaps you should take a look into the...

Glowing pearl of Malady

vs.

Glowing pearl of bile

I believe that the effects are not working properly, i did not get a boost to my disease based spell when i purchased the pearl of malady. I was thinking perhaps the effects got mixed up.

Please be more specific. Do you mean you added the malady aug when you already had bile? Or just replaced bile with malady?

I had purchased Malady and it did not effect the damage done by my Spear of Muram. It was just an idea that perhaps it was the effects mixed up. Or could just be me being an idiot.

Hi Colossus, I haven't played my SK on this server to 70 yet, I have played one on live to 70 though. Anyway, I'll my two cents to your reply.

Let's take a look at these items:

One of the things that I noticed previously when looking at the issue with the
Glowing pearl of Magic, but chose not to mention was that the allaclone seems
to have all of the LDoN aug item's resist checks all be set to magic. I don't see
why the focus effect would have a resist check, since the resist check should be
based on the spell itself. Now maybe this is a Pandora's box, I may regret mentioning,
but perhaps that could be an issue?

Now let's take a look at your spell:

You might want to try using your spell w/o any focus effect on a few mobs to get your
baseline of damage, then equip your focus items, gather the data, then post your before
and after damage. If there's no difference, report that. If there is a difference, do the
damage modifier calculation and post that. That would be my suggestion to you.

The question that I would be curious to know the answer to is, do the damage focus effects
work on damage of time spells? If they do, that's great. If they don't then I'd request a
"Critical Affliction" be put in. However, that would be for a new topic.
