Tradeskills Dude

So I was a Poisoncrafter on Erewan already, and I wanted to open up the rest of the tradeskills. Lo and Behold! It reset my poisoncrafting skill back to 1. That being said...
1: can the npc that does this split the crafts up that you want set to 1?
2: A warning for folks who are not quick on the uptake such as myself that this will lower your skill if you already have it
