The UCS works fine. It is just an additional setup that needs to be done on the server in order to use it. Derison coded the EQEmu UCS from scratch a year or 2 ago and overall, it works very well. It also let's in-game mail work and also handle the friends/ignore lists for SoF+ clients, and maybe 1 or 2 other things.

Just noticed this thread after all the time i've been playing here.

I too also get the "Cannot connect to the UCS..." message every time i login or zone. I can however talk in all channels and such but the one thing that bothers me is that it will not let me add friends or ignore people. Be nice to be able to keep a friends list of people outside of the guild and such but no big issue. I always thought it was cause i keep a high pings of about 205ms but I suppose not.

Also, I use the SoF client.
