Client opens as black screen

Hello!
A friend of mine is trying to start out here at THF, and has gotten EQ:UF and all that jazz.
When he opens the game through THF patcher, the client displays nothing but black. He cannot see the login screen or any such thing.
At first it wouldn't open due to gui xml error(s), and I had him delete the contents of the uifiles folder so the patcher could download what was needed on its own. We got past that only to get stuck on this.
Any ideas?

Make sure he has the correct spell file. If using the patcher, it needs to be in the same Everquest folder that he is launching the game from. A common issue with "Black screen" is using the wrong spell file because the client thinks you are blind from a buff that players receive when entering the beginning zone.

Hmm.. Which spell file are you speaking of?

We're trying some EQL_SUI files. He only had 4 in his uifiles folder, whereas I have 21. Maybe that is the issue?


~No bueno... I'm zipping up my eq folder and will put it on dropbox. If that doesn't work, I don't know what will!

Everything has been figured out.
He didn't tell me what exactly he did, apart from running eqgame.exe rather than THF patcher.
If that is what made the difference, then I guess whatever. :p
