Hey,

Don't know if this is possible or much to difficult to do, but I was wondering if there is a way to make it so you can message people from in the website while they are in game while you are not? If say you're somewhere where you can not log in and speak to someone but want to let them know something or just chat. Aside from PMing on the forums because sometimes people don't check the forums all the time. I honestly dont remember a game ever having this so I dont know if its possible but I was just curious.

Thanks in advance!

Ambrose

Even if it was possible - it would be exploited. Sad but true but how would you prevent spamming hated people 24/7 with a small script? How to stop people from sending other people obscene crap?

Etc etc

Log in before being able to send messages.

Only able to send messages if account meets certain criteria (1 month active/donator requirement/level 70s/need epic 1.5 on account etc).

Not sure how easy the above would be though =p

EQ actually DID have a messenger client that you could use to talk to your in game friends! From what I remember it never went past beta though and never got further developed. I'm pretty sure they didn't want to keep giving it away for free :P

That said, I could see how it might be used for evil purposes. Haters gonna hate ;)

Probably not too relevant, but EQ2 I believe had/has this ability.. could have been vanguard..I dont remember for sure. But, it was tied to your server acct so your basically logged in as in guilded, and could chat in guild, tell, channels. Its been awhile, and you obviously would be logged in as a certain character. Thought it used your friendlist too, but I can see the exploit happening there.

EQIM (EverQuest Instant Messenger)

I believe this is what it was called which was tied into live servers for those to lazy to log in and chat.

Wasn't a bad idea on live because you could find out whats going on before you wasted time loading up your toons.

You were still able to /ignore them and it was only for direct tells iirc not 100% sure on that.
