Multiple Crashes

Had Multiple Crashes on Sunday. The way it happens is I zone and move or something. Then one of the screens goes black, then another, etc (using ISBoxer). Then I get a message Client Crash. Did not have this problem for several weeks now. Tried same thing I tried last time. Blew the dust from my PC fans and video card fans. Re-booted. And tried logging in in another User Name account under windows that was created before I installed prior to starting to play EQ Emu again on THF. Zoned a few times with all 4 chars. Did not see any more crashing. Hope it is fixed. Has anyone else experienced this kind of crashes. I am running windows XP, 4 GB Ram, and 2x Intel 3.0 Processors. I looked into getting a quad core, but for my mother board only used quad cores are available without a return policy. EQ is way turned down. Spell effects off, etc. Old models. Sometimes during a long fight one of the chars crashes as well, that can be annoying.

Any Ideas would welcome, I am an ISBoxer newb.

*Characters FX are in Background and Window Display in Foreground (have to double check that),
*also should I have "force EQ to force the game into windows mode" checked or not (forget the exact language in ISBoxer) - it did not apear to make much of a difference last night.

Short of changing over mother board, memory and new processor not really sure what to do.

Titanium is pretty bad to use as a box platform. Even InnerSpace can't fix all that is wrong with that client. When your screens go black you can test if the clients are still running by:

- Take note of which client window is active. It will be the taskbar tab that is highlit.
- Click on a different client tab in the taskbar to make that window active.
- Press alt+enter to force the client to toggle fullscreen.

If that client hasn't crashed you will 9/10 see the window redraw and you can toggle it back with alt-enter to resume playing as before. The other 10% of the time the client will crash to a dialog box during one of the alt-tab sequences. Repeat the above steps for the other client windows.

You may also notice the black screen effect happen any time Windows pops up a lightbox style UAC prompt or other confirmation box outside of EQ. This is one major drawback to using Titanium. UF does not exhibit this issue.

As to why you get this issue, the walk-away answer is Titanium is terrible. IS is sufficiently complex that troubleshooting your config is beyond the scope of a forum thread. Not to mention other hardware/software issues. As for IS/EQ, in increasing order of hassle you could:

1. Backup then delete all the virtual .ini files IS creates, all the Character/Server specific ini files and eqclient.ini itself. Review/Adjust your ISBoxer Toolkit settings for that character set, export the settings, and proceed to reconfigure the UI/keys.
2. Re-run the character set setup wizard and redefine IS layout options. Followed by suggestion 1.
3. Delete and recreate your character list and character set within ISBoxer Toolkit to restore default settings. Followed by suggestions 2 and 1.

But if you are going to bother reconfiguring everything, you should probably take the time to change out the game client to UF and start from scratch.

Thanks

I will look into getting UF client. The problem I was having on Sunday night did not trouble me last night. However, this morning had my characters parked in Western Wastes. Tried to log in, 2 characters (always the same two) logged in without any problems, while two logged on to the private log in server, then got to the character log in screens, and then were booted out.

Needless to say no dragons died. :(

Again. Thanks for that info. Hope I can log in tonight.

Solved my log in problem. Somehow the same account name was ernetered in two log ins. I am glad it is just that.

So far have not had the dark screen problem. Maybe the spell patch helped.

Thanks. Ill keep UF version in mind. :D

In ISboxer, click on a character in top panel.

In bottom panel is a 'Virtual files' tree. Expand that and make sure each character has their own eqclient.ini and eqlsPlayerData.ini file defined.

If they don't, look in your eq folder for a copy of the file and create a copy with each character's name, then come back to isboxer and point each character to their virtual file.

If you are getting multiple slots with same login details, they are sharing a file.
