IT Wizards, HALP!

I have an emu problem :( Lemme list my basics:

I took a hiatus for ~6 months, before which everything was perfectly fine.
I connect to emu using my cell phone, which is pretty reliable.
I run a 3rd gen i7 cpu with 8gb ddr3, my cell has root access and I even port forwarded 5999 (even though looking at my dbg.txt the zone servers use a number of different ports) and I only box 3 (maybe 4) toons, though the issue occurs even when I play just one toon.

My issue: I have at LEAST a 75% crash rate when zoning. And this is not related to THF, I've tested on PEQ, EZ, etc. Once I'm zoned, I'm perfectly fine. No lag, low latency, etc. I upgraded from win8 to win8.1 during my hiatus, but I doubt that has much of an issue with my problem. I've updated *every* single driver. Turned off visuals on all auras. When I *DO* zone correctly, I do it pretty quickly.

Does anyone have an insight to my problem? I can post my dbg if that will help. If anyone has some knowhow on how to resolve this, please let me know. It's almost unplayable, and really slows down raids while people wait 10-15 minutes for me to get into the raid zone.

Thanks a ton in advance!

Although my cell connection was OK most of the time, it definitely performed a lot less reliably than when I switched to a stronger connection. I'm still on mobile but this is a mifi device and the signal is way better than my phone. Zoning and lag in general improved a great deal. I'll eventually get into a fibre optic line and I'm certain performance will improve further at that point.

So although it may be a reliable connection, I wouldn't rule it out as the culprit. In my experience, eq zoning is heavily reliant on a stable and fast connection, particularly when zoning with multiple clients simultaneously.

Well the thing is I never had this issue before :( And I tested my client on a friend's internet and had the same issue. I'm going to try and download a fresh copy of UF, but I'm overloaded with frustration :(

Edit: Think I forgot to mention that it works *perfectly* on EQLive, GW2, etc.

Double Edit: Would datarate.txt work around this issue? If so, what should I set it to? Low/High?

I don't know but I suspect that some eqclient.ini settings can make a big difference with crashes, and that it's worth looking into for you.

What does your eqclient.ini have set for:
UseD3DTextureCompression=
TextureCache=
(and if applicable: CPUAffinityX= )

My EQLive client only had cpuaffinity settings up to 9. I trimmed my emu client down to similar settings and it appears to be much better. Still zoning over and over and over to see if that corrects the issue, but it's looking good so far.

I posted some personal tests with CPUAffinity settings here: viewtopic.php?p=69869#p69869 where I concluded that, for me, deleting all of my CPUAffinity settings gave me the lowest CPU usage with the same or better perceived performance. Looks like you and I are running really similar hardware too. I ultimately left multi-threaded processing to Underfoot and Windows. Wish I knew why that would have such an effect on your zoning, since your affinity settings are perfect to my eyes. Technology, bleh! :? (but jk I <3 it) and glad to hear it seems better!

So delete *all* cpuaffinity settings?

I'll delete them all and give that a try :D If it works, I will send you my first born child!

Yeah I eliminated all CPUAffinity entries completely and had better core balancing and lower overall CPU usage (Underfoot and Windows 8), assuming my correlation is correct!

As with any eqclient.ini tinkering, though, I would recommend you copy your old eqclient.ini for backup purposes.
