Lag spike

There was a huge lag spike. Seems like it was server wide. Lasted for atleast 1-2 mins
As far as I know there is no easy way of determining the origin of a lag spike...
It could be:
1. your equipment
2. internet problems twixt you and the server
3. the server
you might keep up a window of who is on and see if some logs in a bunch of characters.
