what's the difference between damage v1 and damage v2?

is it just a distinction to denote which +damage modifiers stack or is it calculated differently?
basically, what's the deal with damage v1 and v2?

Nothing they are the same, it's just made that way for stacking purposes. Think of it like haste versions, they are just called differently so that the game allows it to stack properly.
