Ive got the disc evasive manuevers. its one of the class spells you get from plane of tactics.
it gives +60% avoidance. When i do #mystats my avoidance is listed as 100/100. i was assuming after i used the disc it would be 160/160.

Alas it was still 100/100. is that correct?

the spells other effect is -10% to melee skills. if i'm not getting an increase in avoidance, but the decrease in skills then, obviously, the spell is hurting me and i should not use it.

need some help understanding these game mechanics if possible,

I believe the avoidance bonus doesn't actually affect the avoidance stat in mystats, its just a 60% chance to avoid melee damage.

ahhh. guess it's not as deep as i'm making it then. have to experiment a little and see which is better evasive manuevers or defensive disc. sucks they are on the same timers.

on another note, the word of strategy for clerics is pretty awesome. now that one was worth the time!

Evasive is also well worth the time getting

Just compare the 2 effects -

Evasive Discipline
Evasive Maneuvers

Using the regular lev 55 Evasive disc - your chance to avoid incoming melee damage is 50% while at the same time reducing your melee Damage output by 33%.

Now with the PoTactics disc, the avoidance change goes up by 20% to a total of 60% and your damage is only reduced by 10%.
