Trust me, you'll be more interested in your pet actually living through the fight long enough to be considered dps. I'm advocating for your class and your pet's survivability, which is a large part of the equation when you look at overall capability of a dps class. You have to survive to be dps.
The remark about ToV was for 1.5 pet surviving. In ST I haven't had too much of a problem either, though we don't have everybody flagged yet and are crawling toward FA with 9 peeps at absolute best. My pets do take their share of punishment, but I like to think our healers do a good job that doesn't require me to intervene. I don't remember where exactly, but I clearly remember mentions to DPS melees also getting eaten by rampages so might have to look in that direction too ? Not something that can be discussed around dummies either too.
Also, with 2.0 in hand, you have to cross ST and PoF to reach PoA. Balance shouldn't also only revolve around avatars in PoA, that I always heard as being the critical test of your progression, the checkpoint that'll tell where you stand gear-wise.
With you attesting that your pet doesn't have any problems on ramping bosses prior to this change, this would even give your pets more staying power (thus more damage over time) and you can pay less attention to it, concentrating more on nuking, etc.
I'd like to point again at my own remark about healers doing a good job, lifting off my shoulders the healing of my pet.
I'd have a comment about the foci fix though. It's a gut feeling from experience, but I'm having more trouble in ldon than I previously had. I know my pet hits for slightly less max dmg, but there seems to be something else. Gonna have to try parsing again to see how it fares. Ed : Scratch that, I just had a bad pet day it would seem.
