New Player Help - Bot Issues

Hey guys! I played EQ1 back int he day and am so tired of the junk MMOs out there I decided to give THF a try (Project 1999 looks good too, but the old-oldschool graphics bug me)

A problem I'm having is getting bots to work. Yes, I went over the Bot Help thread and managed to get it summoned. OK, that's good, but all the '#bot group follow', #bot group guard' and such commands seem to do squat.

With so few players and me starting from scratch I'll need one for a bit if I expect to get very far. Can anyone tell me why these commands aren't working and what the proper formatting is?

[Edit] Also, is it normal for new players to be locked from OOC chat, whispers, etc? How and/or when can I talk? The new player channel yields no responses

i think you forgot to invite it into your group: just target at it and type /inv or click the inv button in your group window.
without that it will just stand around and stare into the void.

Also, new player aren't locked off any channel. Just type /ooc and your message will be sent to all players to read. What intuitive ui and habits up you had from modern mmo are lost here. Learn all the command again and you will be a master in control of your character(s)

except that new players are actually locked out from ooc.
..but it only takes minutes to reach the level to be able to use it. (lvl5?)
