Windows 8.1

I just upgraded win8 to 8.1 and am now getting "memory cannot be read" errors. Short of finding my discs that have been buried since the Bush administration, has anyone seen this and know a quick workaround?

Try this, go into your everquest folder and locate the following file for the character you are trying to load.

eqclient-yourcharactersname.ini

Locate the following:

[VideoMode]
Width=800
Height=600
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
WindowedWidth=1366
WindowedHeight=724
[News]
LastRead=00000000
Automatic=0

Change it to match the resolution of the monitor you're using. As you can see above my resolution is 800x600. If you're running it in windowed mode you'll also need to change windowedwidth and windowed height.

if the full resolution of your monitor is not supported, try lowering it to a supported resolution. You can then go into your options menu in-game and change it to its max.

Hope that works!

Now that I am at work where I cannot verify this, I am pretty sure the video driver is at fault. I noticed this morning that the crash occurs when attempting to draw the player select screen - the first time it tries to render 3d. The screen resolution is ok, the game loads and works until I try to enter a server.

Nvidia/Intel inbox drivers were probably installed when I did the upgrade and I have a sneaking suspicion that they are not handling the video switching correctly. I will update the drivers and post results here.

Thank you for the response, I appreciate it!

I also upgraded from win8 pro to win8.1 pro last week.

I noticed that all my video driver settings had been set back to default, but the driver was the same. I have an Nvidia card though, not sure what you have.

I have not had an issue yet.

Hiya,

Updated from 8.0 to 8.1 too.
Since then my grafik color is dominated by red and blue.
Even the loadingscreen, nomally most black shines red.

Intel, geforce gtx 660, actuel driver.

Anyone have any idea/solution.

3D-Vision Problem ?
1.) Turn off 3D Vision (3D-Stereo in German) in NVidia Control Panel (NCP).
2.) CTRL-T in Game
3.) use latest Nvidia-Betadriver

I had this same problem. I have windows 8.1 and a Nvidia card (geforce 760) and everything was red/blue until Nvidia updated their drivers.

If you have a geforce card I suggest downloading their "GeForce Experience" program (http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience), which will automatically keep your drivers up to date. An automatic driver update occurred that fixed my eq problem.
