So i just build a new pc, and when i log in i can get to char select screen where my little iksar is wagging its tail at 100 WPS. I have read most and tried all the dual core issues 2 day and 16 hours later.... even downsizing cpu in bios. if anyone can point me to the post that has the fix, that would be great.

so when i get to char select screen i cant click enter world, but i can press enter it tries to laod and it kicks me back to login screen,
I tried it on my " eq slave" folder and i could log into SK, but i couldn't click enter world, and when i tried to click on anything in inventory it make a hot key for that item. and all the npc's where in hyper speed.

win 7 64, also tried win 8.1 64

What EQ client?

Can you paste the contents of your eqclient.ini file into a [ code ] [ /code ] tag so we can review your settings?

Off the top of my head, these are the first things I would try:

1. Delete the CPUAffinity lines in eqclient.ini (We can try adding and them back in later).
2. If your processor is overclocked, bring it back to base clock speeds. While Windows boots up and appears to be stable, it might not actually be if you do thorough testing, or it might be fine and the EQ client simply doesn't handle overclocking well. It seems like 90% of the fast-motion-in-games issues on the internet are due to overclocking. I'm not very knowledgeable with EQ and overclocking - just passing on what I heard.
3. I probably won't be home from work for another 9 hours, but I can paste my eqclient settings then, should they be needed.
4. Could try launching the game in different compatibility modes (right click, properties, compatibility...).

yeah i noticed those too, but when i downloaded the new uf client from THF those shouldnt of been in there. but i will delete them tonight when i get home. Guess i should of stayed with intel.

For overclocking, i dont mess that with stuff much myself either. i did find a post that told me to do this, but it didnt help, i might try to lower the setting more.

"Bios Setting - Power Saving Advanced Bios Setting > AI Tweaker > Ai Overclock Tuner = D.O.C.P

Auto changed settings : CPU Ratio = 20, AMD Turbo Core Technology = Auto, CPU Bus Frequency = 200, PCIE Frequency = 100, DRAM O.C Profile = DDR3-1600Mhz, Memory Frequency = DDR3-1600Mhz

Of course, you can always save yourself the headache and go with Intel ;)"

yeah i saw your eqclient posted in another one. and i compared it to mine and i think affinity and video is the only thing i saw different.

I did try all the compatibility modes. even forced my pc to boot with only one core. will try to underclock my cpu and gpu tonight...

I will be home in 5 hours, going to slap my old nvidia in there first and see if that does anything, then under clock the cpu.

Found some old info on the run speed bug in eq/eqemu with amd multi core cpus

Code: Select all

AMD and Intel Dual and Quad Core CPUs both cause problems if you don't have the right drivers, patches and settings. Below I have all of the fixes I am aware of to resolve these issues.
Symptoms

The symptoms of a Dual (or Quad) Core problem are:

Character appears to be sliding along then ground when running
Character speeds up and slows down oddly while running
    Character seems to warp around
Everquest crashes often shortly after entering the game or even before connecting to the server.
The game will run very smooth for a few seconds and then completely lag out and get choppy for a few seconds, then return to normal and smooth again over and over.

Fixes

If you are running an AMD processor, you can fix it by installing the AMD Optimizer and AMD CPU Driver which can both be found here:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9706,00.html

For both Intel and AMD, you will want the latest Windows Updates to make sure you have the dual core hotfix. You can also download Windows XP SP3 which includes this update here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=68c48dad-bc34-40be-8d85-6bb4f56f5110&displaylang=en

And here is the actual Hotfix by itself if you don't want to update to SP3 completely:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C2AB5A48-8240-4934-BBD8-34FB8A0FCE3B&displaylang=en

Windows Vista should not have this particular problem, so there are no patches or updates needed for that part of the problem.

Running in Compatibility Mode to fix Windows Vista and/or Dual/Quad Core CPU Issues:

Right click on the Everquest shortcut you created during the eqemu setup process. The wiki page can be found here for information to get setup: [1]
    Select "Properties".
    Click the "Compatibility" Tab.
Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
First try selecting Windows XP from the drop down menu there.
Click OK and run Everquest again to see if the problem is resolved.
If Windows XP compatibility mode does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 1 through 4 and try all of the other options 1 by 1 until the problem is resolved.

This fix does not work on all systems, but it has definitely helped to resolve issues for many people running Windows Vista and/or Dual/Quad core CPUs.

Finally, if you are still having issues, you can try turning off CPU Throttling which is what changes your processor speed and voltage depending on usage. You can do this by:

Disabling CPU Throttling (AKA Cool N' Quite):

    Right Click on your Desktop
    Select Properties
    Click the Screen Saver tab
Click "Power..." in the lower right
Select "Always On" from the Power Schemes Drop-Down box
    Click OK on both windows.

Dual Core CPU Fix:

Dual (or Quad) Cores cause crashes, but have a simple fix.

    Start EQEmu
Before logging into the login server, ATL+TAB out of the program and hit CTRL+ALT+DEL
    Select the 'Processes' Tab
Find the eqgame.exe process and right click it
Select 'Set Affinity' and then chose CPU 0
Return to EQ and run like normal

Setting EQ to Start using only 1 CPU:

Windows Vista/7 has an option that lets you start an application and set the CPU affinity, which assigns the application to run on a specific CPU in a multi-core system. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Right click on your EQEmu shortcut on your desktop. 2. Click "Properties". 3. Go to the Shortcut tab if you aren't there already (should already be on this tab). 4. Delete everything in the "Target" field, but make sure to leave the "Start in" field alone! 5. Paste the following line into your "Target" field:

c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 eqgame.exe patchme

6. Click OK and you are ready to start Everquest :D

Note that you will see a window blink quickly before EQ starts, but that is the command prompt doing it's thing and you don't have to worry about it.

That concludes all of the most well known dual core issues and should work 99% of the time. If you are still having problems that seem related to a dual core issue, you might want to verify that your motherboard supports your CPU if you build the computer yourself.

Glad to hear things are working now. To recap:

Problem = fast motion at character select and unstable connection to world, where motion is also fast.
Solution = disable Cool 'N Quiet (AMD) in the BIOS settings

I'm guessing the PCIe frequency is mere coincidence and unrelated to the bug itself. Does that sound correct?
