Starting new on this server

Hello All,
I downloaded and got logged into THF server last night. Running around, I got to about 30ish with the help of another new comer.
I see that MQ2 and such are allowed on this server. I normally play with a full 6 man team. I would really like to run an SK or Pally as my MT and I would really love to have a ranger in the team but I know that these aren't always optimal.
I was just looking for some advice from the veterans of this server. What is the most successful group composition for this server? I would really hate to go have to go back flag other toons because I simply didn't know X class was 1000x better than class Y. I really just want to cut down on the back flagging.
Or, if you know what you know now, and you were limited to 6 toons, which 6 work the best together?
Thank you for your time,
Huffdady

Welcome! I really think you will enjoy this server. As for your questions, it really all depends on how you intend to gear your toons. If you intend to donate and get donor gear, a single group of 6 can clear all the way into T8. If you don't donate, you can still see all the content, but you will have to add additional groups.
For tanks, warrior and SK seem to be the preferred choices and having at least 1 knight tank is required for a fight in T7 due to fear immunity.
You should use a cleric for heals if you only intend to use 1 group.
Every group should have a bard.
That leaves you with 3 dps spots. Unfortunately rangers are about the worst dps on the server currently, but if your heart is set on one, go for it. A properly donor'd rogue is the best dps on the server, pushing 400k + dps. Mages, necros, wizards for caster dps, in close to that order. Zerkers and monks are about on par with each other and rogues are top with rangers bringing up the rear.
It's a good idea to have a mix of melee and caster dps as some mobs are immune to magic and vice versa.
Hopefully this gives you a basic idea. I'm happy to share my thoughts on how to get the biggest bang for your buck on donor gear if you wish to go down that path.
Again, welcome and have fun!!!

I will agree with most of what was said. You can easily get a single group (non donor geared) into t6 and there's even a guide here for that.
As for class make up. My first group (before I added more and more cause I'm a glutton for punishment) was SK, Cleric, Bard, Necro, Mage, Beastlord. The bard + beast are ok dps, bard mainly just highly boosting the dps of the pets and the mage/necro nuking. The bard, bst and pets are good for when melee is required/more effective, and then the mage/nec can nuke/dot if melee is not optimal.
As of now the DPS ranking in my opinion is
melee - rogue, zerker, monk, bst, bard, ranger
caster - wiz, mage, necro, ench
Druids, Ench, Shaman and bard are amazing support classes if you start to expand to a second group. Clerics are the ideal healers, but druids and shaman are good as well. Tank wise I prefer the SK, but warriors will have an advantage when it comes to defensive disc options, and I've seen some great paladin tanks.

So far, I am liking what I am seeing posted.
Preferred is my MT being an SK. That is what I played on live and would love to have a decked out one again. Some servers the SK has been neutered and warriors are the only way to go. Not really my style.
SK, Cleric, Bard, Rogue, Mage and probably a beastlord.
Next question, looking at the Donor's corner, it lists the costs for all the different package except the Breastplate section. Anyone know what the donation amount is needed for them?
Also, the first package says you get 2500 platinum adventure points. What are these used for? I am sure when I donate it will be for more than that, I just wanted to know what they are used for.
Thank you for taking the time to look/answer.

The Bp packages are $155. The platinum token is for LDoN points, which can be used to buy spells and gear. LDoN points can be earned in game, though.

A couple of points that I wish I had learned much earlier than I did:
- Don't spend plat on armor while leveling. Instead, get sets of the 1-30 quest armor, then full sets of Chaotic. Fill in gaps with drops from Guk and etc.
- The IVU
quest ring from Crushbone is super handy, as is the
levitation one. Speaking of quests,
Hunt for Spirits is a quest worth doing immediately upon 35.
- Use the
webtools to search for items and spells and such. 100% accurate in my experience.
- The
wiki is another indispensable tool. I reference it frequently and found that it really helped me to maximize my efforts (boxing = redundancy).
- When you get to the 55-70 zones save ALL of your Stones of Sturdiness. You'll use these to aug the Kael drop armor for your SK when you hit 70 and have some really great AC for your level.
- Use the plat that you've saved while leveling to buy: Token of Vulak (to skip Ssra - this is totally my opinion cuz I had an awful experience there) and epic 2.0 mat (15k/toon) and then item upgrades for your tank then Cleric (again, very much my opinion).
Welcome, and good luck!

As was said bp package is 155. (that's listed with the post that has all the info on what the bps do in the corner section called Donator Breastplates)
If you do decide to get a bp - start with the mage or beastlord if you make one. The pet alone will get your group up to level 70 without need of any other buffs/power leveling. If that's beyond what you want to spend, I'd start with the SK donor weapon version 1. It's a right click life tap that heals your group for the damage it does. That also will help you level VERY quickly and up until t3 or 4 basically make your SK unkillable if you can keep the buff up.

Welcome.
I was resistant to MQ2 since I'd boxed a group of 5 on live without it. But...it is silly to avoid such a useful tool when it is available. I'd dig in at the start now and learn to use it.
I added characters as I needed them, would be better to just start with a group of 6. I ended up with 3, a cleric, a druid and an SK, when I started into DSK and then had to do some serious backtracking.
My MT is an SK. I like SKs and have him because I enjoy tanking with him but, in truth, a Warrior is probably a better choice for really tough boss mobs. The caveat is, of course, is that a warrior needs to be joined at the hip with a cleric from the get go.
Pet classes are easier to box and mages have the strongest pets. Be prepared however to spend time giving armor and weapons out to pet, even if you do so with macros.

There are 2 donator weapons.
The sword of hate and the other one.
Which would be the best one for progression?
