Some thoughts on duo box combos

I'm trying to plan a bit up front a set of 8 unique duo combos with no class overlap, so that all 16 classes get used once.

This came about because I really dislike boxing more than 2 characters at a time. I want to get to experience leveling all the classes at least once and looking to avoid playing the same class over on multiple play throughs. The following is what I've come up with so far, and thought I would post it here to get some feedback. Some thoughts on what bots might work best with some of these combos would be useful too, as I am still fairly up in the air on that front.

If you are just using duo boxes then you won't be taking on any major raid targets. With that in mind, then a Tanked Up dps chain-wearing melee with a light healer/dps comes to mind. I've seen some of our top Zerkers and Rogues soloing and cleaning out HoH. So why not a Zerker (I like position not counting much if you are using Melee dps as a tank) and a Shammy, Druid or BL? Druid donor BP is insane down the road, an amazing bit of gear. And a druid can get outfitted with a nice pet in HoH. Shammy for light healing, heals over time, debuffing and some dps. Another very light healer could be a Zerker with BL and of course BLs do good dps as do their pets. Finally Necros can do quite a bit of healing and huge amounts of damage. So if your Tank dps is tough and can survive with a Necro for healing and dps this could make quite a duo.

If you go with a Zerker as a duo tank, I doubt if you will have problems holding agro....in fact they often go to the top of the agro list when used as dps and it is tough getting agro back to the Warrior, SK or Pally tank.

I have not included rangers because their high dps is closely associated with their use of a bow...they have been improved quite a bit and do good dps now with a bow but they don't do zerker/rogue level damage with melee.

It sounds to me like you are wanting to level all classes to max 2 at a time rather than just find 1 pair of 2 to play constantly. Leveling can be done with any 2 classes + a bot to fill in whatever role is needed. As was suggested the melee dps do as a tank in a pinch with a healer box or bot + another dps. Pretty much any combination that gives you 2/3 roles (tank, dps, healer) can get max level with a bot filling the third role. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend CLR/WAR + dps bot, it's doable, but not super efficient.

I'd swap cleric with the enchanter. Mage + cleric doesn't even need a bot since mage pet can tank leveling content, mage nukes + cleric heals. Warrior + ench + clericbot would let you tank, buff/debuff + minor dps and let the bot heal.

That isn't a bad idea. swapping the enchanter and cleric, though I kinda feel like that might make the war/chanter combo a bit too busy, and the mage/cleric combo a bit boring. Warriors take a bit of focus to make sure they are keeping their aggro up and chanters can be one of the more demanding classes to be played properly. Mage and cleric on the other hand are a bit of a snooze to play usually. With mage you send the pet in, wait a while and then toss a nuke or two then rinse and repeat, cleric just has to be switched to for buffs refreshes and the occasional heal. I figured with the mage, one of their main shortcomings is lack of crowd control, having the chanter there for cc and debuffs would be rather handy and their buffs would be rather useful for both the mage and their pet.

One thing I am a bit torn on is how I want to set things up as far as accounts go, I mean I could just put each toon on its own account, but that can be a bit cumbersome, but would allow me to more easily change my mind down the line reguarding dual boxing, as I could then just add more of my characters to the line up as needed. So far I just have the one account and one toon (26 human necro with a pally bot leveling up in the alt-progression).

One main character per account will give you less problems in the future ... if you ever decided to box more than two.

I decided to mess around with the line up some; I'm going to give a try at a shaman/mage duo for now. I haven't decided on a bot yet, probably some sort of dps, maybe a zerker. I also settled on doing each character on their own account to keep things more versatile down the line.

I was going to hold off on working on my first duo until after I got my necro up through the alt-progression content, but I figured I didn't want to waste a chance to experience a bit of the Halloween content, since there didn't seem to be anything going on for it on the alt-progression side.
