Transfering data files from UF to RoF2

There are other posts that address this, but I thought I'd sorta condense both what they have said and my own recent experience during my transition from UF to RoF2. Like I mentioned in another post, I recently came back to Hidden Forest after being gone for about four years. Maybe five?
As has been mentioned in the past, simply copying all the various files from one to another may not work well so I did not even try it.
There are various data files that are mostly for the EQ program itself, such as:
- eqclient.ini: amongst other things, this is where the video mode and the main EQ window size are.
- eqlsclient.ini: most (or all) of the data here only applies to Live Eq.
- eqlsPlayerData.ini: probably don't need to mess with this except for special circumstances.
- eqlsUIConfig.ini: I didn't mess with this.
- defaults.ini: this is used by the EQ program when creating new characters. If you're going to create a bunch of new characters and you want all their windows to be organized the same way, THIS is where you edit. But make a backup first.
Not all of these data files were in both UF and RoF2. Most were, but not all. And since I did not need to do a lot of messing around with them, I therefore did not do a lot of in-depth studying of them.
When you create an account, an account ini is created. Example:
- xxxJ_characters.ini: where xxxJ is the account name.
This is how EQ remembers the characters on your account and which server they are on. Here is what's inside one of mine:
[Characters]
Character0=Jaton,HiddenForest
When you create a character, two more ini files are created. Here are the ones for my Jaton:
- Jaton_HiddenForest.ini: this is where a lot of user micro-management is...button assignments for hot buttons, abilities, combat abilities, etc. Also, spell loadouts and blocked spells. And...Socials.
- UI_Jaton_HiddenForest.ini: this is mostly window settings, like position, color, transparencies, etc. Note that most everything in the main EQ window is considered a window including hotbutton bars, the little zone-to window, the compass, etc.
If I decide to set Jaton up as trader in the Bazaar, this will be created:
- BZR_Jaton_HiddenForest.ini
When I first started "cleaning up" my newly created Jaton, I had planned to manually re-enter all his socials and button assignments. But after a few minutes of that, I realized what a huge time-consuming task that would be. So instead, I made a backup copy of his original two character ini files and then brought up his new files and old UF files and placed them side by side. I then manually copy/pasted entire sections.
When I logged Jaton on, all his old buttons were there except for the ones that had been an AA Ability shortcut...those now said Not Usable. After looking a little bit, I noticed that RoF2 did hotbutton AA shortcuts a bit differently than UF:
Page1Button7=E123(old UF way)
Page1Button7=E294,@-1,0000000000000000,0,Servant of Ro (new RoF2 way)
Unfortunately, the old UF number of the ability did not match the new number, and so I was not able to simply append the new info. So I dragged and dropped the unusable buttons to delete them. But this wasn't a big deal, as there are comparatively few AAs that I would want a hotbutton for. Jaton only had six buttons labeled as Not Usable.
I got rid of the Collapsed Automaton button, in case anyone remembers that. It used to call up a little clockwork pet that threw heal spells. But Vaion took away the pet and made it an effect.
That's all I can think of at the moment.
Have fun.
