EQ Commands...there are HOW many?

In coming back to Hidden Forest, one of things I knew I would have to do was to re-memorize EQ commands...a job that I knew would be painful and slow. But wow, I had forgotten what a chore it was just to get a list of them let alone remember them. As far as I know, there is no definitive list of commands AND their instructions for even Live EQ, let alone Hidden Forest. You can definitely get good info on the most used commands from several different websites...but an all inclusive list? Nope. Not that I could find. But here is what I DID find:

I started off in good 'ole EQ itself by typing /help. This is what I got:

Format: /help <class> Where class is one of normal, emote, or guild
Normal will display a list of all commands.
Emote will display a list of all player emotes.
Guild will display a list of guild commands.
Voice will display a list of voice control commands.
Chat will display a list of chat channel commands.

Not a good start if you want accuracy, because its partially misleading and partially incomplete. What it SHOULD say is:

Format: /help <class> Where class can be either normal, emote, guild, voice or chat.
Normal will display a list of all that commands are not emote, voice or guild commands.
Emote will display a list of all player emotes.
Guild will display a list of guild commands.
Voice will display a list of voice control commands.
Chat will display a list of chat channel commands.

If you then do a /help for each class, you will get an annoyingly unalphabetized list of slash commands. There are 197 "normal", 93 emote, 16 guild, 4 voice and 17 chat slash commands. This list has some slight inaccuracies even by Live EQ standards. For example, it lists /lfg (looking for group) in the guild list. Naturally, it has even more inaccuracies from the point of view of Hidden Forest. Example: /dz* and /task* commands (Hidden Forest does not have Expeditions nor Tasks), /legendsofnorrath (this game shutdown in Aug 2016), etc.

There is no help for individual slash commands in EQ, unless you count typing the command itself and seeing what you get. If you want a text file of the lists, then use /log and then type /help for each of the five command classes. Then type /log again to shut off the function and go get the resultant text log file.

There are several sites that have good yet slightly incomplete command lists and instructions. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Commands has a lot of command instructions for many useful commands, and a complete list of 214 commands that appears to be accurate for Live EQ. Note that it reflects an up-to-date Torrent of Velious client (launched Dec 2019). It will be slightly different than ours (Rain of Fear, launched Nov 2012).
http://www.eqwiki.net/wiki/Commands also has a good list of instructions, but note that it appears to have stopped being updated after Seeds of Destruction (launched Oct 2008).

Note that some commands (maybe a lot of commands?) have shortcuts. Like, /o = /ooc.

Anyone know where the / command comes from? (Just a slash, nothing else).

Did you know there was a /facebook command? I don't know how or if it works though. It does bring up a window though.

After you get through slogging thru the slash commands, there are the pound commands (#). Type #help for their 41 commands. According to its description, they are EQemu commands and so that implies that most or all would be available at other EQemu servers. These all have nice descriptions/instructions next to them.

And finally, the carrot (^) commands that I believe are unique to Hidden Forest. Type ^help for its 211 command list. In scrolling thru the list, they all appear to be bot commands, and their descriptions are all conveniently listed next to them.

I seem to recall, years ago, that Lillu/Vaion/somebody changed modified the characteristic of a couple pet commands. I don't know if that's still so.

Anyways, good luck with the commands and have fun.

Let me clarify my mention of logging EQ text.

When you type /log, the window will reply "Logging to eqlog.txt is now *ON*. But that is not accurate, like so many other things in EQ. Its a old reply from back in the 1990s when EQ could only be run once per computer, i.e., no multi instances. What it SHOULD say is that the log file will be in your main EQ folder, Logs subfolder, and under the name of your toon and the server. For example, my Jaton's is eqlog_Jaton_HiddenForest.txt . This allows other instances that run other toons to have their own log files as well.

I forgot the mention the approx. 425 keyboard commands that you can find in Alt-O. About half of them have keys assigned to them. This number is enough such that it can interfere with the workings of other windows programs. For example, I could not get the Dynamic Zone Window Toggle to work because its assigned keystroke, ALT-Z, is also used to bring up my Radeon graphics card program's sidebar. I had to reassign the command to something else. And then I had to reassign that keystroke within the Radeon program in order to put Alt-Z BACK into EQ. Sigh.

And yes, I know what some of you are thinking..."if it interferes, why put it back the way it was?". I did so because I don't like changing key assignment defaults. It can lead to confusion when trying to learn commands, when explaining problems that involve them, and in trying to help others with problems. And in this specific case, that function does not seem to do anything in THF anyways.
