I'm trying to decide how valuable cleave is. I see that cleave I is 40%, does that only affect your base crit chance? Or does it affect your modified crit chance (ie including Combat Fury ranks)?

In the EMU code, crit bonus from items & spells comes into play after AA modifications.

If the base crit chance is 0% after AA (e.g. server base crit % is 0, you have no aa's, and you're not a warrior or berserker), - and you have bonuses from spells or items, then your base crit chance is set to 1% before adding item/spell bonuses.

THF may do things differently, so you never know

As far as i am aware, we are not doing something else than what you just perfectly described

its worth noting that on THF all classes start with default critical chanse of 3% which works of level 1.
