I think the real issue isn't with pet classes, but with T8-strength pets available to any lvl 70. Any other class as a fresh 70 can scarcely sustain the T8 spells/discs because they don't have enough mana/endurance for it with the low gear. Give a fresh lvl 70 a T8 pet spell and they only have to cast it once - easily sustainable near-T8 dps for a fresh 70 pet class.

I think that's the only real issue here, because T8 pets aren't that great once you're in Tier 8. With mega buffs and donor gear they become 'good', in my experience, but not 'great'. I encourage anyone that is unsure to simply parse their toon or have their guildies parse theirs. It's not as amazing as some would have you believe.

If this is a big enough issue to do something about, then here are the options as I see them, in no particular order:

[1] Make some/all future dropped/bought T8 spells NO TRADE. Or just a select few (like the 1k godly point ones). All existing T8 spells that are un-memmed and tradable could remain so until they're memmed. They'll disappear soon enough over time.

[2] Nerf pets, balancing the early tiers and unbalancing the later tiers.

[3] Nerf pets, boost pet owners.

[4] Make T8 pet power scale with progression flags, where the final T8 flag allows 100% pet power for the Rk. I pets, T7 flag allows 80% pet power and so on...

Making pet spells rk1 nodrop like rk2 would solve the whole thing. Only would remain the donor bp pets which shouldn't be even mentionned as it is a donor and mostly every donor to every class is ultra powerful.

As Noren said, pets are good but not ultra great in late tiers. Nerfing them would just unbalance those class again. And as I said earlier, I don't see anyone running an army of pets. WHen you see people boxing 12 toons you will see many pets, but that's most of the time Draekon's pets lol. Sometimes they will have 2 pet casters, that's all.

And about donor pet, well, they indeed do more dps than a non donor dps class and about the same as a donor dps class, which sounds normal when you look at the price of the donation for the bp.
Compare them with a donor BP dps and they are not even close (I saw some bard running 87k dps I think ?).
So yeah instant cast pet compared to what ? 5s to summon a rk3 pet around ?

Nerf pets is not the solution, mage base dps comes from pet and nukes, if mage is silenced or find a hard resist mob, and pet is nerfed and dps is low .... then why play mages? =)

Btw, pets eat rampage, flurry and every melee dmg you can find in the game, so pets die easy during raids, dont see the point on that tbh, pets aint inmortals =)

and like everyone says, ppl will box, run , and go with armys of the class they like more ... its just what you like to play and what you like to have in your team =)

I don't think nerfing anything will help in any way. But I do like Noren's #1 and #4 idea.

I went for extreme output on that 87k dps parse using every buff and debuff I had, and on a T1 dummy to boot. I would refer to this post when comparing donor pet dps with other donor dps classes as it appears to be pretty balanced as he is using only the buffs/debuffs mentioned for each class and no other disc or buffs or debuffs. It does include using each melee's special attacks on cooldown.
