with the new round of pet changes i decided to parse the necro pets..

T-1 dummy in the arena, Rk. 3 pet with dark minion focus, no weapons, no buffs , no haste, 5 min parse

Rogue --------- 1421778 damage done : 4739.3 dps
Monk ---------- 1872393 damage done : 6241.3 dps
Zerker -------- 925940 damage done : 3085.5 dps
Warrior ------- 1074804 damage done : 3582.7 dps

T-1 dummy in the arena, Rk. 3 pet with dark minion focus, Rk. 2 weapons, donor weapon click , elemental mastery haste , 5 min parse

Rogue --------- 7685696 damage done : 25619.0 dps
Monk ---------- 9760469 damage done : 32534.9 dps
Zerker -------- 5011930 damage done : 16703.4 dps
Warrior ------- 4969469 damage done : 16564.9 dps

T-1 dummy in the arena, Rk. 2 pet with dark minion focus, no weapons, no buffs , no haste, 5 min parse

Rogue --------- 1004895 damage done : 3349.7 dps
Monk ---------- 1425556 damage done : 4751.9 dps
Zerker -------- 739889 damage done : 2466.3 dps
Warrior ------- 772546 damage done : 2575.2 dps

did not parse the Rk. 2 pets past the baseline because i dont have donor clickie on that toon.

Rogue backstab is still broken(or at least i would call 624 - 1800ish backstabs broken). once that is fixed i believe monk and rogue would parse really close to each other.
It is clear that the zerker pet needs a bit of loving to bring it in line with the other pets. I think if a 2 hand sword was added to the pet bags it would help a bit but probably not enough to bring it in line.
Finally I decided to take the higest damage/dps pet(monk) and parse it with full Rk. 2 buffs( 1 exception was Rk. 3 Focus), Rk. 2 bard songs, donor weapon click, elemental mastery haste, and with Rk. 2 chanter debuffs on the T-1 dummy in the arena.

The result was ...
14609872 damage done : 48699.6 dps

also it is NOT my intent to discuss the changes made.. just to get a grasp of the dps totals of the change in a non-inflammatory way

Sounds about right. Ran a few parses last night with rk 2 necro pet, monk, t1 dummy, buffed with donor weapon, elemental mastery, death march 4 (nothing else, except crappy sune buffs). Parsed ~23kish each time. I could probably push it up to 26-27 with better buffs. Before nerf, he was doing in the area of 35-36k (rk 2 pet with same buffs).

Zerker pet *really* needs to be looked at. I'm not sure exactly what it does. It has normal melee swings, but then does 3-5 crappy little swings (about 100 damage? can't remember) in between it's slow "big" swings (the "big" swings do the exact same damage as the fast monk/rogue swings, only slower and they don't quad.) No clue what that's all about :P I've never actually used it outside of parse dummy because it's always parsed about half of what the others do.

Personally, I'd like to see some innovation there :) Turn it into a necro pet (heck, it's already a zombie!). Keep it's current melee DPS, but add in a fast-casting higher DPS version of the t8 necro group lifetap :)

I'm annoying but two questions :
- t8 dummy is much better for tests I would say (old debate that I don't want to launch again but I can live with t1)
- Was rogue BSing ?

Rogue was backstabbing, min bs was 886, max was 3944 with toys, without 243 min 1882 max backstab. The monk pet kicked for 4070 max, kick really shouldn't be outdamaging backstab.

I'm not concerned so much with the dps and damage numbers, but in the comparison between the pets. t1 or t8 melee pets should see the same reduction vs Mob AC.

Your number concerning BS matches what I got told. Hadn't time to run tests since patch because I was too busy with epics lol.
But it's true that when we do the effort to place rogue pet behind mob, it should do more damage than other DPS pet from behind, and less than them from front.

Perhaps pets should be simplified.

[1] DPS pet.
[1] Tank pet.
(possible addition) [1] Hybrid pet that is middle of the road in tanking and dps ability.

As it stands, the rogue/zerker/monk pets are all pathetic at taking hits T8+ to the point where their tanking abilities are indistinguishable. My necro tanks far better than my DPS pets can. Rampage alone in T9 is enough to 1-shot these pets at times! Ultimately they are three paper tanks with varying DPS abilities where one always comes out on top. Hence why the last ~year has seen people use nothing but rogue pets. They were the best of the paper tank world.

My advice is then to change the paper tank world. Make just one DPS pet. Should make everyone's lives a little bit simpler. To keep the fun of choice, the DPS pets could be available in the same graphics currently in place. I.e. you may summon a DPS pet in the character model of the legacy monk/rogue/zerker styles, but they are exactly the same stats and class.

Alternatively (and in [ code ] format so as to not distract from the point of my post)...

Code: Select all

Could introduce a ranged pet.

[1] Melee DPS pet.
[1] Ranged DPS (spell or phys, but spell reminds me of old-school EQ fire ele pets)
[1] Tank pet.

If this is done, then Melee DPS pet should have moderate tanking ability and ranged DPS pets almost none.

I agree. 1 pet spell, 4 graphic options (if necessary to keep with mage and 4 elements) 1 tank type, rest identical in stats/abilities but different skins.

Personally would like to see the following 4 pets if I was making a wish list.
1:Tank
2:Melee DPS
3:Range physical DPS
4 Range Magic DPS

This would allow pet classes to really pick the pet best suited for any encounter.

Or even an option to turn range on and off for a single melee dps type might make it more simple.
