Please report back with some numbers regarding the recent LDoN spells. I want to know where we stand now.
- Wizards now get Chaotic Detonation, 11,5k base damage, -150 resist mod
- Mage's Thunder of Ice base damage changed from 3k to 5.5k damage, -150 resist mod
- Necros now get Chaotic Funeral - 1,8k damage per tic, -150 resist mod
- Encs now get Chaotic Strike of the Mind - nukes for 3k base damage, auto heals groupmana by 450 per nuke, -150 resist mod
- Pet classes share a new Spell - Renewal of chaos - mage/nec/enc/bl/dru/shm pet heal for 8000k

'lo.
I was about to buy Thunder of ice from Heelen, but 2 things incited me to write this first :
- First, it's evocation-based. Understandable, but it'd be obviously better if it was conjuration-based.
- Second, I don't have any ice spell-damage focus. It's not exactly something a mage would seek at all costs, and improved damage tends to be split by resist on stuff, not for all types.
I think I'll stay with Ancient nova strike till I at least find an ice focus.

All nukes are Evocation based and Ice focii should be plenty in game really. In addition, Kael and NtoV class specific Mage armor (wrists) will now have a Cold based focus.

Got back to grinding LDoN (I had purchased renewal of chaos instead), bought Thunder of ice, tried it here and there. Thanks for the bracer alteration, btw, saves some trouble hunting a focus I never bothered with before ^^
So. Well it's quite a mana guzzler, but even my little 11K mana puts it to good use and gives a use tot he orb of spirits. Don't think I ever saw it get resisted in Ssra including a few named (not the very big ones though, more stuff like Assassin, magister, taskmasters...).
Yesterday, I tagged on a Chardok expedition on royals, and on the 3 of them, it was pretty nasty. A few full nukes, many partial hits for 25% roughly, a few more in the 50-ish department, a couple full resists. On the queen I tried to debuff her first, but at 50% I still hadn't landed a malosinia (5 resists, bleh, and I didn't have mala up beforehand). I don't know where they stand when you look at group/raid content, so can't comment on that. Would love to hear more about this point.
I gotta say though, when you say "All nukes are Evocation based", what are you referring to precisely ? Nukes in general ? mage nukes ? 'cause for mages, evocation is certainly secondary. Many high level nukes are on conjuration, as well as heals, or the big DS that last a few hits.

Need to grind out the last 150 for my enchanter - will probably get around to it today. The spell does look interesting though!

I haven't gotten around to the grinding (been too busy trying to farm tov for armor - we just beat emp a couple days ago), but you might want to look at the 0 mana cost and 0 recast on the enchanter spell. Also, the range is a bit low at 100. I know I probably won't be too popular with the enchanters for pointing this out
