Heya, can me make 2 new recipes?:
Shattering Shield - Blacksmithing created "defensive discipline" clickie with a type 11 recast of 2 hours that has 25% damage mitigation for 3 min.
To create it -
Blacksmithing skill 285
Ingredients from trash Tier 0 & Tier 1
Chaotic Shattering Shield - Blacksmithing created "defensive discipline" clickie with a type 11 recast of 2 hours that has 35% damage mitigation for 3 min.
To create it -
Blacksmithing skill 325
Ingredients from trash Tier 0 & Tier 4
Make tradeskills desirable.
Thoughts?

Sorry, Did I mention that its a one-use that is consumed upon use? Non-lore so you can farm more than one at a time but you can't use it for a few hours.
Expendable.

this is an interesting idea, but would need to be clickable from inventory - consumable is actually a good idea too

Seems like the response for this item is low - is it because people aren't attracted to tradeskills or because they wouldn't use the item? I know for sure that i'd love an extra defense item, even if it only has 15% mitigation... Maybe then Klandicar won't own me so hard.... making it harder for me to get into Sleepers to get the defense clicky ring.
Farming this item would be a nice timesink too - How about farming Ssra basement for 6 "Bone Fragments of Daxt's Fallen Clan"... then going over to Doomfire and killing the Doomfire Captain and similar level boss-named (still t-1 level mobs) type for the Insidious Temper? Then combine with a glowing hammer and 6 Steaming Waters from trash? I'm still geared in tier 2ish stuff and find that these mobs are cake so you wouldn't even need to make 2 levels of the item.
Screw the name Shattering Shield - Make it "Daxt-tastic shield of melded flesh".
... maybe I should get back to accounting.

I can understand where you are coming from. The early tiers are rough when you only have 1 defensive clicky. T3 introduces another clicky with 1 hour refresh, followed by T5 for the ring quest.
I can remember wiping countless times to sontalak because defensive ran out before he died. Seems so long ago now, and now I dont even worry about it.
Doubt I would ever use it now, but would have been nice on the early tiers to have a little extra defensive.

not having mutiple defensive clickies force people to team up to get down some mobs and I find it good the way it is.

Cool, I'm glad you enjoy the way it is. It seems like you are in a good position to group up and slaughter stuff...
I guess that means that you wont have to have the blacksmithing skill and farm the materials to give you that little extra 15% mitigation bump for 3 mins....
However, my schedule does not allow for seeking out groups. I'm too proud to /ooc for help and wait 20 mins for help to arrive. I want to know that I have done everything I can to kill whatever I need... even if that means assuring adequate preparations.
The item is not game breaking, can be considered a timesink and is not necessary for progression. More or less, just a tradeskill idea.
I do have good news though... I got Klandicar down to 3%! I think this proves that the item is not necessary by any means but, meh, it would be cool... especially the player-named aspect of items

Kind of old post to respond to but Im reading the boards before work.
The idea is cool and there are plenty of us out there that made it a job to master tradeskills.
Its just a shame there is like zero market for anything we can make.
It does go both ways, as its very very rare that I see anyone ask for help with a tradeskill combine and the few times I've bothered to let people know I can make stuff no one wanted anything.
Still wish the solo aura stuff was tradeable, 400 trivial. Could have made some bank selling those combines.
