Boxing

hey guys,I'm a newer player around here. Bit of an EQ vet, stoped playing live and p99 isnt my cup of tea.

THF sounds fun and interesting, but I'm curious about boxing. Would I be at a major disadvantage of I choose not to box a character on here? I know some servers like the EZ server, its practicly a requirement.

Also, the wiki doesnt seem to answer the class questions, for example, are druids now a pet class or is the pet just something to aid them?

A lot of peole box here, but I am seeing more guilds starting with no boxing allowed within their rules. If you can find one of those guilds then no boxing is an option. It is possible to get to 70 with a lot of aa without boxing, but until you are geared well you will not be soloing the raid tiers.

As far as I am aware, the druid pet is not going to win any fights. The druid is still a supporting role, with DD, DOT, heals and some nice buffs.

You can create as many bots as you want to assist you when soloing, but can only have 1 bot in a group at any time.

I prefer to box as I like to AFK a lot (Wife/Kids) but I like to run solo sometimes as boxing really sucks the fun out of EQ sometimes. Killing Xegony (T5) with just 1 toon is terribly slow with the fight lasting over 30 minutes. Great to do it once but make sure you have a good book to read.

If you can find a good non boxing guild who is recruiting and are about your level then you will have a blast on this server. Just dont try and join an advanced guild and skip all the great content. I've been here for 2 years and I'm still only getting to the end of T7, but I have spent weeks in every zone getting all the fab loot and the fun fights. There is so much more to this server than the end-game content, which is why I take my time and really explore the zones until I can do them with my eyes closed.

I would suggest you to atleast dualbox and use a dps bot, it can get you far in game and won't ruin the fun ;)

I enjoy boxing but find that some encounters require more individual detail and removing boxes lowers encounter complexity (assuming you've spent enough time gearing).

Make 3 accounts to start with, play one.

Hit a wall in progression and add another.

Progress further, have fun, hit another wall.

Add another.

Its all part of the experience. You don't need to box to have fun but it makes it alot more fun for me.

Read the forums for what to do after 70 and don't expect to tank group+ content without gearing a tank or donating.

This server is hella fun. Stick around and enjoy it!
Thanks for the memories.

Well,I'd like to avoid boxing as much as possible. Just a preferance of mine to work on one character :)

though I seem to be having a hard time picking the class I'd like, haha. Unless dps/utility roles are different on here

You should be able to play any class you like. Of course there are requirements like you need a tank and a healer. But Knights get defensive discs here too (not as good as wars but they do get it).

We tried to balance all classes out and the result is not that bad compared to other emu servers where you mostly see 3-4 classes played.

Not trying to kiss anyone's butt here, but I think I speak for most of us here in saying that Tyler is selling the whole dev team short by saying "compared to other emus".

Balancing classes in a game with so many is brutal and has to be re-addressed each time content is meaningfully expanded. The devs here have done a great job of balancing in an absolute manner, not just compared to other emus. It seems that lack of player provided data, as much as anything else, is the limiting factor in the drive toward toon class equality.

The basic druid pet is worthless. The T8 pet with pet commands is awesome for a druid.

i wouldn't go so far as to call it worthless, it helped me a lot when i was lvling up as a solo druid.

The Dire Charm AAs (which druids get) lets you DC lvl 65 mobs instead of only 49. You can do lots of stuff with a DC pet once you hit 70 in places like Kael and Stillmoon. There is a screen shot floating around here somewhere of me killing one of the KD names using a dire charmed wolf as a tank. Just have a plan for when it enrages, cause its gonna get crazy!
