How is a monk supposed to use Fading Memories?

Never played an end game monk on live, but Im trying to learn here.

basically, i am not entirely sure how to use fading memories. In TOV i thought maybe i could run past stuff and "skip" the trash, but it doesnt seem to do anything useful.

FYI, I got the clicky from TOV robe frozen fiercehand shroud.

A bard can use fade much more effectively to do what you described because they can use the ability many more times (as it's mana dependent and on a shorter cooldown than the monk robe). That said, if you're far enough away from mobs (if you click it when you're still close, they'll just re-aggro) it will allow you to drop aggro. It can be very useful as a monk, just takes a little practice!

Whoops, I meant to write monk in the title...

Regardless... i dont really know how to use it effectively on the bard either.

FM does two things: erases you from hate list (on 99% of mobs, some boss mobs won't forget), and gives you an ordinary invisibility. If the mobs see invis and are still within aggro range, they'll just stutter for a second before chasing you down again. Feign death is usually better because when you hit it and you fall down, you can be sure they're gonna stop and eventually head back to their ordinary lives. The reuse timer on the ToV robe for monks is pretty situational, but it's also a very good click if your tank sucks and you steal aggro, can just click to remove aggro.

As a bard, you usually just spam fade a few times while running as fast as you can to keep out of range of see invis aggro.

I use either bard runspeed song or the monk runspeed disc to get going and then click the robe once I have agro on 20+ mobs.
Keep going until I get lots more agro and then FD or I am near the spot I wish to be at.
If the stuff see's invis and/or runs fast you might not get outside agro range and it'll just chain agro back to the entire train. Just FD wait for them to path far enough away, stand-click-fd-stand-run like mad.

if you want to skip mobs and coh your best bet will be using a bard with coh orb. you can spam fade since its only a few second cooldown, while it does use mana, once you start getting raid gear, even by T or so, you will have enough mana to get where you need to go and coh your group.

Honestly if you want to pull too, bard is best. With the lull song and fade you can single pull anything that can be lulled easy and if it cant you can spit faster with fade since you instantly lose agro and dont have to wait for mobs to path back or get the mobs have forgotten you message to stand.

bard power!

damn, youre making me want to switch my main from the monk to a bard... and to be honest the bard, as of now, is the red headed step child. i dont even let him melee. he sits with the clerics, sings, gets last on all loot...

I never use my bards to melle either. But when somebody who knows how to play a bard plays, their melle output is actually fairly good, on top of the group aspect of their songs.

They are one of the coolest classes to play if you know what your doing with them (I don't).

mine was pretty weak and didnt melee much until i got good weapons with multiple aug slots for lifetaps. Until then she pretty much just sang song for everyone else. Now everyone else supports her =p.

Xeg drops a nice lifetap weapon with 2 aug slots, you can start with that. Pick up another lifetap weapon from say PoFear or even better DSK, where you can also get Curse of Vampire augs, and you can start to safely melee.

The solo/raid aura for lifetap procs also helps a lot.
