Be mindful.....and I think Ydiss will agree....monk dmg is more consistent than rogue dmg in the short term but rogue dmg will win in the end. There is a chance I am wrong and I am not afraid to be wrong. Rogue dmg is spiky but over the long haul it will out DPS a monk of similar gear by a fair margin. And that's only fair, monks have tools rogues don't get.

Lets all be honest (forget this one fight and think of the big picture), a monk or a rogue is not a tank. I don't care if a rogue can tank for XXX seconds (hi nimble) or if a well geared monk can tank Emp Ssra. There is no replacement for the real tank classes. On this server they are as balanced as one could ever hope to expect.

Here are the facts.
You need a real tank.
You need real DPS.
You need real heals.

If you have the three things listed above, you can go far solo before you join a guild. Technically I am in T6 with only a 6 box.

Yes, you can accomplish a fair bit with non traditional combos if you sink enough time and/or money into them. I don't think that's the point though.

Whatever you choose. if you need a hand just holler. you can usually find me on as Zhenpang (my tank).

Thanks Ydiss and Safiya,

You both have been ever so helpful and I am much clearer. Off to bed now and will think on it for tomorrow.

Hey, just an update.

Thinking over your advice I looked at the tank classes, and they are rather more interesting than I remember them on live. I also installed wineq to see if I could tolerate 3 boxing. Its not too bad, and if I find its diminishing my enjoyment later I can just drop back to 2 or 1 characters.

So I am thinking now, Paladin, Cleric and Necromancer 3 box. If I get a few donors for this setup, what would you recommend? Maybe Necro BP, or Paladin weapon, or cleric weapon? If Paladin has coth clicky and FD clicky can he quickly run past trash mobs and coth others to him like the rogue or monk with COTH clicky does?

Also, I might enjoy Paladin, Cleric, Enchanter as well. Is that a better trio than the necro one?

Thanks for all the advice,

Cleo

Sk/Cleric/Mage

Nothing wrong with your box at all but the above may be a little better and able to get you along a bit easier.

Glad you decided to try a tank. Paladin is a good choice, I've really enjoyed playing mine. Once you get the aoe taunts (tov legs, true command spell line) on the go, with the donator 2.0 sword, you'll be an agro magnet. You will be a very capable healer (eventually you will be able to level up another dps and do a lot of content without a cleric) and you can group cure most detrimental effects.

In reply to your question about fd and coth. The rogue is king here, by an enormous margin. So much so that I'd still recommend you forgo the pet class and opt for a rogue with the coth click donator. Your tank can get one from lady Mirinela in tov. But, if you really are set on a pet class for dps, then the fd click will be ok and save you time sometimes. It depends how tough the content you wish to skip is. If it's strong, you might end up spending more time waiting for mobs to forget agro than it would take to simply dungeon crawl.

Are you choosing a pet class to make character control easier, or just because you would like to play a necro? Not that a necro is low maintenance, what with all the dots (which, not used, significantly reduce the effectiveness of the class). I ask, because I'd suggest beastlord every time. The tradeable t8 warder surpasses all other pets until you reach t8 yourself, and they require much less management (they also heal and buff very well).

I'd always say play what you like and your set up is good. Just making sure you know all the options. Mage is good, as suggested by Safiya. They are the simplest to play of pet classes as you only really need to target and send the pet in once you have all the control aa. Mind you, the same could be said for beastlords.

Avoid the enchanter unless you have a dps class to assist.

Yes,

Just from a fun standpoint I prefer paladin to SK, and Necro is on of my fav classes. I tried the donator BP on test server and really like the look of that necro pet.

When I experimented with 3 boxing I did not like having to position the melee dps. With caster I can just hit /assist pal, send pet and throw a few dots. I find it more relaxing if I dont have to move more than one character much. In this case the paladin is my mover, and when I change to other chars I can mostly stand still and cast.

I can see beastlord would bring some nice things. Ill think about it as they are interesting, but again I dont want to repeatedly move a 2nd melee into position. Thematically I dont like mages and wizards.

If the paladin is not too busy keeping aggro, alot of my fight time would be on necro throwing spells.

PS How is Druid instead of Cleric here? Damage shield would be nice for paladin and from spells i saw they seem to heal pretty close to cleric.

Druid healing doesn't give you as many options as cleric. But you do get the 2.0 debuff. You also get the best hitpoints buff with the cleric. I'd go with cleric until you are able to get rk spells and do 2.0 quests with relative ease. Then you can pl and try all healers.

I'm going to send you a pm about character positioning.

Aside from power leveling, dmg shields are mostly useless imo. That being said, druids are strong single target healers. Considering your necro and paladin can handle group healing, there is no compelling reason to choose cleric only.

You can get a clicky rez item very early on in the raid tiers, too.

Once you're 70 I wouldn't worry too much about losing exp on death as you'll be able to make it up and then some really quick.

But, for an easy to acquire rez clicky I would recommend Hammer of the Sun God which drops from Glyphed Covered Serpent in Ssra basement. He doesn't DT (like the other 2 in the Cursed cycle) so should be relatively easy to take down post 70. Or if you're finding yourself having issues taking him down shoot me a tell or give an /ooc for help - the community is super helpful.
