What is everyone's thoughts on having more detail about the top tier zones? Guides etc. Currently I believe the Standard Operating Procedure is to only post guides to the lower tier stuff and not post for the end game content. Keep it the same or post strategies for encounters for DSK3 and VT?

That was the former SOP.

There was an "incident" almost 2 years ago and after a discussion it was decided we would post them. So I went and I think edited several T8 encounters that others have gone back and edited and some still need edits. We are all here to help each other as a community no need to keep stuff like that secret.
The Wiki is by the players for the players. If you want to post something go ahead and do it! If someone starts removing it because they want to keep it secret that is a whole other matter all together and that is when our fabulous GM's (minus Noren  ) step in and take action.

If your idea of fun is making sure others are beating their heads against the wall for months on end (took us 4 months to figure out Zethurim!) and not able to progress through content... Then I am sorry to say I feel this is not the community for you.

If your idea of fun is playing some EQ and helping a community grow and progress then you are in the right place!

I was going to get started on the DSK3 section this past weekend but did not get around to it. I did do some updates / create pages under Tactics that still need work.

As always the entire Wiki is a work in progress but with everyone's help it will be a valuable resource for new and returning players.

There are always arguments pro and con to stuff like this, but I think its pretty easy to settle the issue, and get to exactly where the "rubber meets the road", on this, so to speak.

The folks that own the server, and make content we enjoy, work hard to keep us happy, and really they do a pretty darn decent job. But making the content is only half of the equation. The other half is bouncing it off the people that it is designed for.

That's hard to do when everything is secretive.

We, the players, are the primary "yardsticks" of the tuning of these encounters. The folks that develop the content, benefit from more people having access to the content and giving detailed feedback, and we in turn benefit from the changes they make based on that feedback. The more folks that have access and give detailed feedback on content, the better fit any given is for the folks it is designed for.

That's my take on this.

8-)

Strategies are voluntarily submitted and voluntarily read. I have no problem with sharing strategies inside and outside of game, and do not wish to restrict anyone in that regard. I will request that if you do share, please do so in a "spoiler alert" type of way. Vaion and previous devs have cooked up some clever (and sometimes downright devious) scripts that can be as much a joy to figure out as they are to beat. But that's not everyone's cup of tea, and I wish to respect both perspectives. Additionally, progression can sometimes get competitive. People have in the past and will in the future race to down bosses and withhold information until they do so. That can be a lot of fun in its own way, so let's respect our differences on the subject.

Personally, I've found the community to be filled with kind folks that will give you tips, strategies, and even join you in the raid - and all you need to do is ask. Depending on the time of day that doesn't always work out, so it's very handy to have a resource on the forums/wiki as backup.

Bottom line:
If you wish to share strategies, please give adequate warning so as not to spoil someone's fun. Title your forum/wiki post with fair warning. /ooc is not a good place to share strategies (for spoiler alert reasons if you haven't been paying attention until now), so please try to keep it to /tells and other channels. On that subject, I'm going to see about adding an extension for the wiki so that we can use <spoiler> tags. That way folks can look up loot without too much temptation for their eyes to drift down to the strategy.

Personally, I'm awful at "figuring out" how to do encounters when I don't have any access to strategies. I don't play crossword puzzles and hate anagrams too! ;p ..

I feel like most of the time in EQ raids, even when you know exactly how to do something, it's still a challenge in actually pulling it all off.

I'm all for strategy sharing & access for all who want to look for them. As mentioned, it's our choice to read them

Been thinking this over since the spoiler tag was added.

With this comment in mind and trying not to be negative just tossing this out there.

Be it an encounter, a quest or anything in general.

Take epic 1.5 or 2.0. Every time I have to do one on a new toon I have the Wiki up and follow it step by step. Not that I haven't done them 20 or so times now but because I like the step by step guide that was written by the players for the players.

Thinking back to the first time I did an epic 1.5/2.0 in January 2012. I could have followed the quest dialogue and figured everything out but I enjoyed the short cut approach so that I could get them done and focus on other content.

With that said. I feel the entire Wiki in itself is a spoiler.

We cloud simplify it and add <spoiler hide="hide_message"> </spoiler> right on the main page to cover everything.
