The Hidden Forest

Looking for Player feedback and to gauge interest for a PVP event similar to Best of the Best on live back in the day. This is something that I enjoyed as a player. My concerns two concerns are, participation level and folks that have 1 or 2 donor items competing in the Donor bracket, where folks might have more gear.

Considering 2 brackets, donor and non donor.

Rewards would possibly be a Title, and a unique item.

Gear on this server is not really balanced for PvP. It would be fun but would need serious restrictions on certain classes. Clickies, nukes, skill mods all make PvP unfeasible atm.

I like pvp but even with a donor bracket a rogue like Cunning or Melie can one shot a character with 30k ac. You could make a pvp gear bag and then it would just go off of skill rather than brute force.

Pvp bag contents could be:
1 buff clicky
1 heal clicky
1 debuff clicky
Armor
Weapons

All temporary items

Not terribly excited by PvP myself, got sick of the silly rules, restrictions, nerfs and etc on Live. Over the years things slowly changed so that the best PvP classes changed. At one point wizards were competitive before successive nerfs made them at the bottom. Eventually Rangers, Bards, and Rogues ended up being the most popular PvP classes.

My personal feeling is that everything should be the same for PvP and NPC s... or maybe there could be an LDoN like instance in which you could zone in and emerge naked with the above bag and leave the rest alone.

Certainly PvP has little to do with the THF server other than to show Rogues rule.

Aye, sounds fun but as formerly mentioned, it would be difficult without gear regulation. Even saying two brackets is really not all that fair either. I mean, I have a T7 Pally with mostly T6 gear, event augs and such... I do have a several pieces of donor gear but at 12k+/- AC and 60k+/- HP buffed, I'm nothing compared to people that are full donor or near full donor. If you were to do donor brackets you would need like 1-5 pieces, 5-10 pieces, 10-15 pieces, 15-20 pieces, then like 20+ brackets (think of those with all donor and mostly donor augs -- what I jokingly call "10k-toons," because they have more invested in their character than I do my car). Not hating on those people or anything, they keep our server alive, but they have a definite unfair edge in competition. It would still suck to be the guy with a donor weapon going up against a guy with two weapons, a breastplate, greaves, and arms.

The idea of having a gladiatorial gear bag is nice. Something like mid-tiered 70 gear (T4/T5ish -- or even T8/T9 as long as it is equal and universal), class all/race all with decent stats and +heroic stats so people will still feel like they are playing the same character (or slightly better/worse but not shockingly different). If you go to raw and low then it'll feel odd and your normal techniques will likely fail (i.e. SSRA/SH grade gear). Therefore, a medium ground would probably be best, then there is no need for dividing it into different categories. I wouldn't go too crazy on clickies and effects, although some spell effects will be needed for casters to make them competitive and heals/cures for melee types without any healing capabilities. That would be the trick -- making well rounded gear that equally benefits all classes and makes everyone equal in the playing field, then the players with the best strategy would win.

Just my two cents...

NOTE: Maybe a second competition for those that are donored out or who believe they can take down ultra-donor man with their strategy just for ultimate bragging rights on the server.

Maybe reward them with the Efreeti Standard or Mosscovered Twig! LOL!

I like Rafe's idea with zoning in naked. The plane of war was never used on live. I don't know if it was used on this server for anything. It is a zone that has the perfect name and would make a great pvp area in my opinion.

While I like to show off my rogues back stab it would be nice to take a warrior with a big 2h and joust like the good old days (tantor's tusk for the win).

Other things to think about would be if we had a gladiator bag would you want AA tiers instead of gear tier.

This discussion can get very in depth and make Triden's event be overwhelming lol.

I liked BotB back in the day but it was kind of somewhat balanced back then. There is no chance of it ever being balanced and fair on a custom server, even one designed for pvp. I think doing anything pvp is a waste of time and effort that could be better spent elsewhere.
ex:
Easier I think to have a kill competition where you can set scaling based on tier flag / doner gear. (Assume one of the perl/lua monkey's has already played with Akkadius's scaling script)
