hello everyone. i just registered to the forums and i have a copy of everquest titanium on the way. eager to experience the older days of eq again! i was wondering what types of classes are most needed and also how hard it will be for me to catch up to the raiding part of the game. thanks for the help!

Play what you know.. having said that mage/necro/bst seem underplayed, and not used on raids much.
If you can box, set that up when you start.. the old tank/heals/dps combo will lvl you fast enough.

Raiding content is easily caught up on, depending on your guild/friends you make.
Some zones are instanced to your guild tag, so that will make a difference.

Just enjoy yourself, ask questions in /ooc or brwose the guides on here.
Its NOT eqlive, and you will wish they came here for some ideas, as it just makes eq playable again .

if you mean like a bot- they pretty much best all around bot choice for a caster is a paladin.
he can tank, and he can take care of himself (most of the time  )
Of course since you luck a dedicated healer in this duo (unless you also box), your job as necro will be to burn down the target (specially the named) as soon as posible before it deals the lethal dmg to your tank.

I strongly recommend you concentrate on Undead - you will have a massive edge against them (undead lull on pulling, as well as undead slow, and ultra mana efficient undead nukes)
