Hail and well met!

Hullo! New to the server - played Live from release through PoP and also on PEQ for a few months. PEQ didn't really do it for me as I didn't use MacroQuest or the likes and found it limited me but I just couldn't stand the "cheating" feel, so here I am! I've checked a few things out on the server and so far I'm really excited to play here, but I have a few points I was hoping people would be willing to discuss with me.

I'm going to 6 box, and am set on a CLR BRD SHM and MAG. I like to challenge myself and want to try to take this group as "deep" as I can into the progression.
- CLR needs no explanation
- SHM for stat buffs/caps, best slows, backup heals, light dps from dots
- BRD for pulling/cc/overhaste/spell dmg increase
- MAG for ease-of-use (pet + nuke macros)
Are my above assumptions based on Live valid on this server?
? My tank I was leaning towards PAL to auto + throw a few taunts/heals for aggro. Would a SK be better able to handle this given hate procs? Does anyone have a preference on which knight class is the better tank?
? What would compliment this group best in the 6th slot for dps? I was thinking a NEC to take advantage of MAG summon items and having the ability to dot + pet. That or a RNG for some good ol' fashion pew pew assuming there is a ranged auto-attack function? Any recommendations to fill a role or gap I'm not thinking of?

Thanks for taking the time to read, I'll see you in game!

You can forget the lil dps on shm :) but they are the best buffer in game.
both knights are great on this server , they are the king of AE aggro , but warrior tank better because they get more defensive disciplines.
Rangers are great in a boxing group because you just lick autofire and thats it.
If you are going with a bard+shm I highly suggest you to get a wiz for dps or a monk if you feel like meleeing.

beside that your combo is pretty perfect.

I myself use : SK / Monk / Bard / WIZ / CLR / DRU and I add a shm out of group for the buff when I feel like it. and this is the best balanced combo I found so far.

Thanks for the response!

I've always loved Monks and I don't think I considered one for a group cuz the Bard can pull but it can't match the DPS! Would a Monk or Ranger deliver more consistent dps? Why would you recommend a Wizzy? I feel like I wouldn't be able to maximize a Wizard's dps - on PEQ rolled WAR CLR BRD WIZ SHM MNK and the Wizzy always felt neglected and with too much mana compared to the rest of the group. Would there be good dps with a knight tank/BRD/MNK/MAG?

Would the disciplines really make that big of a deal in the end? Are there custom disciplines or changes that have been made to them or do they follow Live? I mean I'm not against teaming up with people to tackle difficult encounters or to overcome the eventual wall I'll hit, but I'm looking to be mostly self-sufficient. Would a knight limit me too much?

once you get into T7, you will find it challenging to solo the raid content without a second tank.

Thanks, antihero - I figured I would need to add another tank for later progression.

Given the feedback I've received, I think I'm going to start with SK, CLR, BRD, SHM, MNK, MAG and eventually add a WAR, another CLR, and another dps that will compliment the group (RNG for atk buffs or BST for regen/extra proc slots?).

Thanks again for the info you two!

I was suggesting wizards , because with a bard/shm in your setup , high end the wizard will be the dps king of your set up.

I box quite a lot of toons and I dont run any non-tank melle other than a bard who just sings for the entire fight and never gets close. Melle chars to box are horrible, they need healing, they need to get close, they need to be clicked. Why bother? Stick in a ranger and be done with it!

Rangers are super easy, click assist button, they autofire. Problems occur when a mob is rooted as the DPS goes fairly horrible. 2 of my rangers are donor bow, 2 have T7 bow. These are my favourite class to box, as you can literally press 1 button and never touch them again. The DPS they produce is great and the effort is minimal.

Wiz's are a PITA to box. They needs lots of gear and AA's to get the DPS numbers worthwhile. During a fight they are a PITA to box as you need to keep hitting a button to make them do something ( no /autofire on Wizards ). However once geared/aa'd they are the best DPS. At full burn with Bard/Dru/Enc debuffs/buffs I am seeing crits of over 200k from the wizards. They dont even have great gear, just whatever junk that rots.

Go Ranger boxs and be able to play & chat. :)

Ahhhh I see, so with the Wiz it just comes down to maintenance. The macro slots have what 5 lines? That means assuming no fizzles one macro could do 3 spells (cast, pause, cast, pause, cast) but I'm still not sure if that would be worth it.

Thanks for the info bishbash, you brought up something I wasn't remembering at all: how much dmg melee can sustain in a fight. Rangers having an auto bow attack is really nice, I'll probably roll with one. Good thing I didn't start that Monk yet!

So looks like I'm pretty set on SK CLR SHM BRD MAG RNG and will scrounge up some hardware to build another machine for another CLR, RNG, and WAR for later tier raids.

Thanks so much for the info and feedback folks, I really appreciate it as it helps me get into the mix that much faster!

You can make a macro to cast 5 nukes.
