It might be wise to add a loop into his script to allow the player to read through the directions on combining again. At the current time, he will offer this one time and then go into his check for istaskactive();
Recommend adding the saylink into this text using a $sew clone:
elsif(quest::istaskactive($taskid1)) {
quest:say("I see you are making good progress on your tailoring projects. Keep up the great work and come see me when you have completed!");
to
elsif(quest::istaskactive($taskid1)) {
quest:say("Have you made progress since the last time I saw you, $name? You haven't $sew2 how to make the items I asked for have you? Keep working hard and come see me when you have completed!");
and
my $sew2 = quest::saylink("I guess I am still a little rusty on my tailoring skills. Tell me the basics again, please.", 0, "forgotten");
On second thought, the saylink is probably too long, but you get the idea

Actually the Tailor tells you to "search your manual for the sewing kit" - is an RP way to tell player to "open sewing kit, type kobold or bat leather" - you will get all the instructions you need
Same thing for all other crafting:
Jewelry: type "dust" or "alchemical"
Smiting: "cold iron" or "cold steel"
Fletching: "bronzewood" or "cold steel"
Important note: SOME items named "cold steel" but made with Fletching kit, such as: Scepter, and Spears

Yes, I realize he says that ... and it works only if you pay complete attention the first time ... otherwise you have no idea what to search for. You are penalizing those who whip through the scripts out of habit.

Bad habit! Should be left behind.

Tell me about it ... sometimes it is depressing to sit in the Forest AFK like I do and scroll up to see people doing that through the scripts I've written. Oh well, but still I believe in second chances

personaly i found all the crafting explanation texts rather easy to understand combine X (x3) with B to get A, combine A(x3) plus Z to get D, combine D (x3) +L (x2), +M. whell thats just a example but for me it made very practical sense, and yes searching in the forge,jewelry kit, fletching kit, tailoring kit was very easy since you gave the items the same names as refered to in the explanation text. only thing ive had a problem figuring out is the use for the giant tadpole skin/tongues.
all in all i rate the tailoring quest a
8/10 for fun factor
9/10 reward factor
8/10 difficulty factor
10/10 inventory hog factor
(FYI a 10 difficulty would be like 1.5 mobs at 55 ect...)
my ranking works as follows for fun factor
1= do the mobs for the quest even exsist?
2= on the same level as network TV
3= better than watching barney
4= was ok to accompany watching the news
5= on the same level as cable TV
6= not raiding so might as whell
7= wow someone really did work hard on this
8= turn up the tunes and have a blast
9= can you feel the love tonight?
10= teeeee heeee (jk no really 10 > anything else)

I am glad that you enjoyed it Sarcon
Initialy I wanted to have crafting recipies for Gaint Toad skins too, but then I realised that there are only 4 of them in the zone, and sitting next to Mglwump makes imposible to camp them, unless Mugl has allready been killed or you can actualy solo him. And i didn't wanted to put them anywhere else out of the water- thought I reliase now there are 2 other water pools in Warrens, so make as well take use of them.
Gaint Tadpole Brains however still needed for Mink Tabolesk (whatever his name is spelled) quest - I wonder if anyone completed that one- bards should be happy
