On this day in history:

Coal was proven as a reliable and moderately clean source of heat and power.

Eisenhower was appointed to command all Allied forces during WWII.

Margaret Thatcher became the first woman to head a major party in Britain.

Nelson Mandela was finally freed from imprisonment.

Janet Reno was appointed attorney general, the first woman to do so.

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney "accidentally" shot his "friend" who apparently resembled a QUAIL.

Rude was born.

Now, let us decide which was the most important happening on this day in history? :) LET THE DRINKING COMMENCE!
