Finished work yesterday at 3pm and walked out to my car. Tried to start it, and nothing. Tried to get a jump and nothing happened. I have been having a problem starting the car for a while, and had the problem fixed by a mechanic. At 3:30pm I called the shop they send out a customer service representative to jump me and nothing happened.
At this point, it is 4pm, I had to call my insurance company to arrange a tow truck and car rental. Had to call my wife to have her pick up my daughter from daycare. I called the Karate Club and let them know I will not be able to teach class tonight, because I am stuck Downtown Chicago. At 4:30pm my coworker came out, she just closed the office. She stuck around until the tow truck arrived at 5pm. Got the car to the shop at 5:10 pm, and by 5:25pm I was at the car rental place.
Enterprise rented me a Chevy Spark. The rental agent said something funny (i thought): "I hope you don't mind a pink car". I said: "I don't mind all I need is a car", and then I said: "It is grey to me - LOL". By this time it is almost 6pm, the highways are jam packed parking lots.
On the way home from Downtown Chicago, I received a call from my wife, she picked up our daughter in time. I called a friend, to let another friend know, to let my Sensei know that I won't be able to attend his class tonight. It is now 7pm, I am about 30 minutes from home. I got gas to make sure I am at the fill mark when I return the car tomorrow (planning ahead). I got home and ate dinner, talked to my wife, hugged the kid and by 9pm I was asleep.
This morning I woke up at 5am, I was as tired as when I get 5 hours of sleep playing EQ. The drive into the city was nice, I never seen a more beautiful sky or a brighter sun. Hopefully this will be fixed today! Cell phones do make things much easier now a days!
The timing of this break down could not have been better. I had this repaired in late July, noticed the problem again in early August. The mechanic could not isolate or replicate the problem at that time. I am heading on a trip to St. Louis this Saturday, being broken down on I55 is not my idea of fun. Bottom line is family and friends are so important, and nice people like the tow truck driver, that did not have to drive me to the Enterprise car rental location, but did.
Have a great day everyone, and see you toning on THF!
