I'm not gonna say that nothing is off with the way items are randomly generated, but I have an example that goes 100% against what is being said.

On this mob http://clone.thehiddenforest.org/npc.php?id=217056, cloak of combustion is listed first. Despite that, we've killed the mob at least 8 times and have had 0 drops ><

Another example is General Reparm http://clone.thehiddenforest.org/npc.php?id=217032. We've killed him about 6-7 times, have had 2 staffs drop yes but 0 plate helms until Sunday's raid. We've had a few leather/cloth caps drop, which are at the bottom of the list. I know these aren't large enough samples to say anything, but just something I wanted to point out..

yes I was incorect on that part. I was misremembering that post that I linked (look at post link for details). The problem is not in list by ID number, but the ordered list which server creates based on % first, and then on something else (posible ID or even aplha name order). In either case an item which has smallest drop chance (or simply gettign end up at the end of the ordered list) ends up getting MUCH smaller drop chance than it set for. Trevis of EMu gave detailed explanations on the subject.

BTW important thing to note that THF ala-clone doesn't show you exact % chances on individual items inside the entry. Only chances on the entry itself

UPDATE - the more I am thinking about it, the more I realise that there is no easy way to combat the problem.
Consider following:
you have a loot entry which has items:
A, B, C, D all with 25% chance to drop
But per Trevis from Emu explanations, the server sort order, will make those % uneven.

If you try to fix this by giving C and D greater %, like this:
A - 20, B - 23, C - 27, D - 30

the server code will beat you, by now sorting list with higher % first resulting in : D, C, B, A list order. And now A ends up at end of the list with even less chances to drop than D originaly had.
So Tyler - you may as well put the bracer % back the way they were =)

The only way around this problem, is to have as little items per entry as posible. You most likely not going to notice the problem when there is 4 items with 25% chance each in the entry, but problem will become significant when there is 16 items (like our Cb gear sets) on the list, all with relativly small chance to drop.

So until those Emu devs fix this, best way to handle set gear is to make entries for each class indibidually, with only few items inside each entry like (bracer, gloves, arms, helms, boots) all with relativly high average chance.

Oh thank you Koeril =)


Some new things I discovered as I run around today.
Chaotic Shiny Metallic Robe from CoM doesn't have any graphics to it =)
I propose to give it texture 15 =)

Weird bug happened to me there too. I was killed by Captain of Guard in CoM, the screen said " returning to hidden forest" but seconds later I respawned back in CoM exactly where I was killed, and of course he killed me the 2nd time around =)

Did you have a bot up at the time you died?

I have this happen to me every once in a while while 2 boxing on the same Everquest file. One box will die the second will instantly disconnect and then the dead box will appear where the second box was... Wow that was a random chain of thoughts.
I wonder if this is happening with the bots in the place of a second character.


But then im just stabbing gnomes in the dark here

Yea the elusive SMR! I finally (and hopefully) fixed this GFX bug now for good. Reload will show.

About the Death-Bug, too odd for my taste, i'll let the Pro's handle that (which yet again qualifies me as the Noob, sigh)
Item Change -> Reload needed
Spell Change -> Reload AND new Spellfile needed

Unfortunately, it is a long standing bug ... for some reason the texture just won't show up. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=287

I think you are the first one to report this happened in conjunction with a death. Tankzor and I have it happen to us typically when things go wrong, we disc evasive/weaponshield/nimble, gate out our non-tanks, and then gate ourselves. Typically after the gate we come right back to the same spot and get beat down. Interesting to see if happening now after a death and curious ... viewtopic.php?f=9&t=813

Another item that cross my path: Chaotic Adamantite Band

Considering it drops of 40+ mobs, the focus (Summoning Haste II) is already obsolete by level 44.
On another note- this focus has never been truly useful or wanted by the players (at least in my experience). I would propose to change it to the lowest Pet Power focus

Another thing that comes to mind, is that since leveling is so fast at low levels, The focuses of type I and II almost never get to be used. What I would have done, is the up the level caps on all focuses, and swap them around to save yourself some focus effects for the future.

Standard focus caps are as following:
I - up to 20
II - up to 44
III - up to 60
IV - up to 65
and there there are some special focuses.

The lower rank focuses are relatively useless cause you outgrow them so fast. Even on LIVE type I was useless cause the lowest level of mob you could get a focus I item from were all like 25+

What I would have done is following:
I - up to 45 (and put this on CB gear set)
II - up to 65 (whatever is in 45+ range)
III - up to 80?
IV - up to ???

then you can take all the items that currently using type IV focus, and give them type I, and in the future when you will want more focuses for higher levels, you will have these sitting waiting for you, without need to make new focus effects.
Of course this will take a good bit of work to go through all items swapping focuses, but a MySQl query could swap most of them relatively simply by the effect number.
