Plane of Fire, Lag

Hello,

Any chance you could please check Plane of Fire zone to see why it produces 10x more lag then any other zone on the server? And / or a fix for this difference?

Anyone can confirm this? First time I hear this complain, besides PoFire is a more gfx heavy zone than others.

As far as I know, it is only graphics lag. Was the same on live - I could run around many of the PoP zones well except PoFire just killed me, iirc PoEarthA was pretty bad too. I think it has to do with the open spaces + mob density + the fiery trees.

I don't believe it to be graphical lag lately. I'll try to explain:

Raid Mob is Engaged.

Main Tank Lags out, none of his skills or discs work, all he can do is autoattack until he eats enrage and dies. (This has happened 4 or 5 different times in a week different days)

Rogue Lags out, cannot see damage anymore or attack, just sees mob health going down. (this has happened 2 or 3 times different days)

My cleric casts a heal, I see the arms moving like it casted but no heal amount in my chat window and Tank health does not move on the UI. The tank is not low health either, typically above 60%. And these are not over heals I've been raiding long enough to tell that on here.(4 or 5 times daily)

Ping is a steady 180, Packets are always 100%. Only in Plane of Fire. These are all different characters and computers.

I don't believe it to be the trees as we're not running through the zone or moving once the raid mob is engaged.

Edit for post below: Ok, np Lillu. By comparison, I can farm the trash mobs to the left of zone in for 7 hours straight and 0 lag, same characters.

Let's see if any other raiding guild/players can confirm this. Honestly, this zone is like that for months, so no idea why you are experiencing this.

Also, if you expreience this on more than one raid mobs, it isn't related to a specific script, so one more reason to think, it's nothing more than gfx lag.

I've experienced what you're currently experiencing many times Rerfu, and Kermit does/has as well. The issue comes from the players end, and it has to do with the internet connection not being able to keep up. Let me explain a bit more.

Picture that you're 3 boxing fine with 10 people around you fighting. Now, if 5 more people come to join and are also fighting that adds 5 more people that each of your 3 clients has to keep up with. I've tried shutting off virtually everything in options that would be displayed in chat to see if that was the issue, it it seems that it still happened. It's possible that PoFire is more CPU intense, so it may also require more of your internet as well. That could be why it only happens in PoF for you, but that is just a guess!

Solution1: Have whoever it is happening to drop one of their boxes.
Solution2: Either get a better internet, and it might still happen if you do.
Solution3: Have less people on the raid.

The best solution is #1, because it's easy to do. I actually had to limit evo to having 3 boxes per raid max, otherwise it was too cluttered and mobs were a joke. Raid mobs here are tuned for 3-4 groups, so keep that in mind.

One last note, if it's a warrior that it happens too you can still shut off ATK..you don't need to eat enrage. If you shut ATK off (even while lagged out) the server will register that action and you wont attack anymore. You can then turn it back on when enrage is over, and camp out/in to fix the lag-out.

Jeido,

Is this only specific to PoFire though? That seems to be the only zone I have any kind of an issue in.

No it used to happen to me in any zone, but that was because my internet was only like 1024/78 or something stupid hehe. PoFire is more graphic intensive, so it could require even more from each client and make even better internets lag out. That's all I was trying to say =p.

I've never been in a raid in this zone but have stood right by one, watching, with zero lag nor any slow down in terms of FPS at all and I was running 3 clients on one box.

I've never noticed a reduction in performance in this zone in normal play when compared to others, with clip plane maxed out.

Then again I do have a decent PC which can run 5 1280x768 clients simultaneously without slow down (although I'm not nearly dextrous enough to handle that many well :P) and potentially could run 6 as it still had about 3-400mb ram free; if running three clients on my machine caused lag in a game as old as EQ then there would have to be something wrong somewhere else (either my connection or the server).

Because of that I think people suffering from issues might do well to also post their specs as this can help identify where the issue is.

The chances are this is client performance related as the zone clearly isn't terribly optimised in terms of visibility (you can see for miles) and does have plenty of particle effects firing about all over the shop.

That said, has anyone tried the zone since the server upgrade? If it's fine now then perhaps it was a combination of client bottlenecking and server packet loss at peak times?
