Randomly getting knocked unconscious?

Alright well let's hope I'm not the only one who has had this issue. I get 2 spells on me which I am assuming are some type of donor buffs. They pop up in my buff window as "Flashfires" and 'Strike of Opportunity IV" and they add a DS and some type of Regen. Well the issue is that my client reads them as detrimental spells and not buff therefore I cannot click off etc... And while these buffs are on I get knocked unconscious every 2-5 seconds or so dropping my health to zero %. Which can get quite annoying...not to mention these 'buffs' last for 400 minutes or so...so the only way to get them off is by dying.

I understand the problem has to do with the THF installer and the custom spell file - I installed both and still having the issue. I have played on alot of custom servers so I'm sure that that's causing a problem. Now, under the installation instructions it had an example of how the installer should be installed C:\Program Files\Sony\THF\Everquest .... is the "THF" folder necessary?

Also whatever this spell issue is , it is also causing alot of my SK's spells to require level 255 therefore I am stuck with leveling up to 70 with half my spells, which is quite irritating...but now that my SK is level 68, I don't want to be handicapped with half my spells unable to be used while fighting mobs that will rape my face.

Maybe I did something wrong? I'm not sure - I do not goto forums for help normally but I'm to the point of throwing my computer across my f***ing house....so - Any ideas? Thanks

This is a pure spell file issue. Please update yours with the THF custom one based on the guidelines. Back up your original spell file (rename it will do it) and copy the THF one to your EverQuest directory.

I did exactly that several times - it did not fix the issue. As I stated previously =) - I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what other fixes there might have been because updating my spell file is not working obviously. Thanks!

Do you run EQ as administrator?

If not, newer versions of Windows will not allow your user full access to the program files until you take proper ownership (or reduce/disable UAC). Instead, Windows copies (parts of?) the Everquest program folder to a location in your user's Appdata directory, from which the program will be run for your user. Until you take ownership of the folder where you instaleld EQ, or run as administrator, any manually created custom files will probably have to be put in the Appdata location to load properly.

That's my stab in the dark. This is as helpful as I get, so please don't flame if you feel like you already know all this and it's not your specific problem.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I'm not sure what is making my character do this but I think I'm just going to do a fresh install and go from there unfortunately =( Thanks for all your help

Well after a few days of performing surgery on my computer's files...I came up with a solution. I did everything correctly as far as installing THF's files. The problem was I had a very customized EQ and there were files that modified certain things through EQ using it's file path location. I did a fresh install and still had the EXACT same problem, that's how i figured it out. So I moved the file path from your regular C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest to a different path - voila! I log in the game and no more wierd shit like requiring level 255 for spells, naked humans, and no getting KO'ed. So in case anyone runs into a similar problem - this was my fix - Enjoy! And thanks for your help!

In general, and not neccesarily directed to you Drythe, path names with blank spaces require double quotes in Window's shortcuts, program linking etc.

Grats on resolving your issues.

I believe your main problem was the C:\Program Files part of that line.
Windows has gotten very protective of things in that folder.
