Offline Mail and Chat - EQChat v1.0 ready for download

Second post below is where the Chat program portion is. This is the offline mail section:

I wrote a tool about 8 and a half years ago for EQ that my guild used until they removed EQIM from the live servers. This tool was our guilds 'mom' so the theme of the responses is all mom sort of talk.

This tool has no cheat functionality - it is purely for communication, mostly for sending characters email while they are offline. I at one time had the ability to do raid signups, where the tool would automatically create the channel ahead of time, present a MoTD for anyone that joined the channel (so you could send along info on where to meet, etc). Raid leaders could store information snippets that they wished to pass along in the chat channel for all going on the raid to prevent mistakes, and a whole bunch of typing.

I am making the tool available here (providing it does not upset anyone in management) for all to use. I am sure there are some bugs from the conversion from the live server to here, but most of the basics work just fine.

If you have a guild that would like the raid features enabled (signups, etc) let me know and I will convert it for use on your guilds webpage.

Next feature coming soon is a windows application that you can download. This windows app will let you setup a buddylist and allow you to do basic instant messaging to online or offline characters. I personally like to chat with friends in game while I am at work ;-) UPDATE: Version 1 is complete, see below.

Anyway, let me know how it goes.

Character to talk to: Eqim

Send the following text:

mom help - gives you the items below in game for reference
mom read mail - reads any email waiting for you. It will notify you automatically as well.
mom delete mail - delete any mail outstanding in the system for you. This stops it perstering you.
mom mail name text to send in the email - replace name with the charactername you are emailing. Everything after that (up to 230 characters or so) is stored in an email to them. Run out of room? Send another mail.
mom show unsent mail - shows you any mail you have in the system that is not yet delivered.
mom delete unsent mail - delete all mail in the system awaiting send to another person.
mom delete unsent mail name - replace name with the character that you want to delete unsent mail to.
mom lookup list - list keywords in the database of information. Usually raid tactics. Let me know if you want anything added. All info in here now is old.

There are many other items, though they are the raid / channel setup ones. I will post updates to the functionality here as they are re-unlocked. Please let me know if you have any problems.

Note: There is at times a delay depending on how busy the queue is. The system will answer you, at times it has to pace out responses to you to keep from flooding the system.

Thank you - hope someone finds it useful.

Re: Offline Mail system - soon instant messaging

Ok - the initial version of the offline chat program EQChat is written and available for download. To use this, you must send an in game tell to Eqim to setup your password. This way, only you can send as you. The password you set should be unique to the chat program - do not match any other logins you have.

This is version 1 - so please take note, there will be bugs. I'll squash em as I find them.

Basic tells and OOC chat capability are in place. You can now chat with friends online from work ;-) Please read the general notes on the download page here:

https://sites.google.com/site/everquestchat/home

If you have any questions please let me know. Many more features are on the way.

Slisteek on THF.

In game chat instructions

When in game, you can chat with someone that is offline (providing they have EQChat running of course). You initiate the chat with them by sending a tell to Eqim:

/tell Eqim chat Slisteek

This will check to see if the user is online, and begin a chat session with them. You may then send tells:

/tell Eqim Hey are you getting this?

Until you say otherwise, all replys will continue back into the same chat session. Want to swap to someone else? Repeat the same starting phrase, with the new name:

/tell Eqim chat Otherfriend

Continue sending replys from there, and all of them will arrive in the new conversation.

Done chatting? Just send:

/tell eqim chat stop

Have any questions? Let me know.

I can perhaps make a mobile optimized webpage... hrm. Would make it easy on both iPhone and Android. All depends on how many requests I get ;-)
