Not working after all!

So, to summarize every option tried so far:
1. Add: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 to shortcut.
2. Re-installed EQ, and follow all procedures on thehiddenforest.org
3. Uncheck texture caching
4. Lower the FPS to about 30ish fps
5. Update drivers on video card, and run windows update.
6. Running EQ as administrator and in compatibility mode.
7. Installed Underfoot client and did all the steps on site
8. Stopped all firewalls including router
9. used ipconfig /flushdns
10. Deleted network card, re installed drivers
11. Set the router back to fabric defaults
12. Formatted machine, re-installed EQ
13. Router - Activated port forwarding to open port: 5998
14. Router - Activated port triggering: 5998
15. Router - Entered IP Address on WAN - DMZ.

Any other options for me to try out? :O

I plan to head up to a buddy of mine tomorrow to play EQ, and if it works out there, then its 100% the router's fault, so it'll be fun to check out.
If not, then it might be some settings needed to be done to the network card.

Either way, getting pretty tired of trying to log in-game, and losing valuable playing hours, now if im playing 4 hours in the evening, only 1/2 hour or 1 hour is actually playing, while the rest is EQ crashing, and me trying to log back in. =|

My router is ASUS RT-N66U if anyone has any experience with this one, its supposed to be top notch, but i've read that some people have issues trying to use port forwarding.

daft question wireless or wired connection if wireless try wired. If wired take straight to the source and connect direct to the modem to see if this solves the problem. Also check what times of day this seems to happen you might be sharing bandwitdh with street a lot of cheap boardband providers do this instead of a dedicated line you are basically piggy backing another boadband suppliers line.

Its wireless, and wired is not an option, i would have to install alot of stuff in my apartment to make that happen, and i dont have an issue with the network other than playing EQ.

This happens when there's alot of people logged on THF.
I will know for sure later tonight if its my router though, and if it is, well... dang :|

We dont have too many cheap broadband providers in Norway, actually.. nothings cheap here =|

Could be a QoS (quality of service) setting on the router. That will throttle your traffic before it even leaves the apartment in many cases. Other than that *shrug*, might be your ISP like bloodscon suggested.

QoS isnt activated on the router.

I've read a couple places on the internet that the router (Asus RT-N66U), has some issues regarding port forwarding, so this might be it.

It says that its forwarded, but when i check if the port is open, i get a message thats its closed..

And i have no firewall up atm :O

Ok, so i was at my friend's place yesterday, and guess what, it works!
This means that the router is 100% the problem, so now what? :)

The router clearly has some issues with allowing certain connections through, and yesterday i updated the firmware on the router, but still no luck.

The router's name is ASUS RT-N66U and it works perfectly for everything other than Everquest, but then again i've never had to allow ports for any game while i've had this router.

Any suggestions?

Just to inform!
Everything works now, the problem itself might have been the router, or it might have been the network card, most likely its the network card (even though it worked when i was playing at my friend's place this weekend).

I can only connect wirelessly to the internet, as the router is 3 floors below me.
So what i did is i have an Apple Airport Express which i use to connect to the router, as my Xbox 360 doesnt have wireless connection.

I connected a cable from my computer to the Airport Express, and now everything works.

So.. yea :D
