Great Gobbler Race - working?

We tried this a few times today and cannot figure out where you are racing to?

I mean do have to run back to the Great Gobbler? We got back to him a few times and even tried hailing him and feeding him beer. Then we ran around the zone to various locations but nothing seemed to do anything. Then we found we were stuck as gobblers, the group got bugged, we couldn't log out because we were unable to camp. Finally ran to Frontier Mountains to zone out and back but at that point we just lost interest.

Is the reward just a bunch of free short beer?

Is there any other point?

UPDATE -- Tried again, upon returning to the Great Gobbler we noticed when we hailed him his response is gobble gobble, so we attempted to respond with "Gobble, gobble." "Gobble, gobble?" "Gobble, gobble!" "gobble gobble" "gobble" and possibly a few other variants. I also tried saying "Happy Thanksgiving."

Then, noticing that you are constantly receiving short beer, we started drinking those as fast as we could. Whenever we cleared a stack we'd hail the Great Gobbler, but still nothing.

There doesn't seem to be any info on it throughout the forums, even going back to the 2011 post by Vaion. OOCed many times and never got any responses in game either, so either no one knows how to do it or those who do are keeping it a secret... I've seen a multitude of others ask about it as well in game too. I sent those members of the community a tell to see if they got any responses and they told us no as well.

We've tried everything we can think of and are now just feeling frustrated. :?

If you follow his text and say "friends" at the end (and grouped with others, 4+ required) then the race will start.. pretty simple.

We can get the race to start (like we were turned into mini-gobblers and translocated throughout the zone)... we just don't know what the race consists of or where are we racing to?

Is it through a series of specific zones? (ie. Great Gobbler thru Overthere>Skyfire>Burning Woods>Frontier Mountains>Overthere>back to Great Gobbler) Like the old EQ Live events?

Is it to certain checkpoints in the zone? (like hailing NPCs or something)

Is the Short Beer a part of it? Do you need to deliver it to NPCs, the Great Gobbler, or does it serve another purpose? (is it even part of the race?)

Forgive us for our confusion, but we don't know what to do and so far have no info on what it is that is needed to be done. That is why I posted the question here.

Now I just feel even more stupid for asking.

Why would anyone offer up replies that just mock the failure of another asking for help.

If someone knows how to complete it - why not share what you do? Clearly there is a mass of people out there that have no clue what to do.

I mean, we got the race started, one or two always can make it back to the Great Gobbler drunken running through the zone and being ported all over... We've attempted a mass of interactions with it (hailing, attempting various dialogues, attempting to give it beer, dancing, waving, pointing, attacking, and even mimicking it's gobbles -- just to list a few of the multitude of things we've tried), but nothing "ends" the race. We've even tried running to other named characters in the zone and interacting with them. We've tried to make a full lap clockwise and counter clockwise around the zone... nothing we can think of works. It isn't for a lack of trying... :x

First off I wasn't mocking you or anyone else. Im sorry you took it that way.

There was only so much info given by lillu and I didn't feel I should put up the answer of how to beat it. I will give you a hint instead. Read everything g and open. Your task window and read in there.

It is not easy to finish just fyi

Thanks, wasn't aware it added a task... thanks, that is more info than anyone has shared thus far.

My apologies if I took your reply wrong.

I am just trying to find out what type of even it actually is. It says race, it shows an old pic with Lillu and friends lined up. Yet, it seems there is no "finish line" for the race -- so the name seems misleading to us. If you "race" back to the Great Gobbler after being teleported across the zone he doesn't interact with anyone including the first to arrive/hail him. Just says a series of gobbles. Clearly this is not what is needed to be done. You are handed stacks of short beer but there doesn't seem to be any reason for this that we could figure out (besides getting more drunk lol). Does this need to be turned in to someone? There are unresponsive NPCs in the zone (like the iksar beastlord southeast of the Great Gobbler) but they don't seem to have anything to do with the event either. We've tried racing back to the gobbler and to various landmarks in the zone, then again back to the gobbler -- nothing seems to trigger anything new. Also, we cannot tell if there is a timer to the event either, but it seems after a few minutes your drunk wears off and you stop hearing "the call of the gobblers all around you" and translocating around the zone. I assume at this point it is over, or not? Then you are stuck in gobbler form and cannot cast spells or camp out - you can't even chat with one another due to the unknown language of the gobbler - leaving the only option to zone out by walking to the zoneline.

Having some kind of clue what needs doing is important to any event. I work 70+ hours a week and have a 10 year old son and 1 year old daughter. My play time is limited and most of my guildmates only participate in events I can show them how to do. If I can't figure it out my whole guild loses out and most of them are family and personal friends. I'm just trying to be helpful to others so they can enjoy the content... that's all. Chances are the rewards will likely be non-beneficial to my characters in particular. I'm not looking for a cheat-win guide but a general idea of what we are doing in the event.

Thanks for noting the quest window -- ironically I would never have looked there at all since many things either don't show up there or have no real info for the quests. I also, even though I've been here at THF for several years and played Everquest for nearly 1/3 of my life, have a terrible habit of forgetting to expand that central area of the quest window!

Your comment may prove to be most helpful and I appreciate that you mentioned it.
