upgrading slot 2 augmentations

So, can I get some clarification, please?

You use the glowing pearls to make fiery diamonds now? Not a fiery pearl? (For lookup sake)

I assume you have to remove the augment to upgrade it? Requiring a donor or aa solvent?

Is there a thread or wiki or anything with more information about the whole Sol Ro zone and upgrades that someone can point me to? I have looked, but find very little. I have not yet made much of a foray into this zone yet, but am looking to do so soon.
