Datarate.txt

Datarate.txt certainly does seem to work with UF. Larger numbers 7-15 increase size of packets so faster zoning etc. smaller packets seem to make things more reliable. When I go to larger numbers I certainly zone faster and get more disconnects. If you don't have a datarate.txt in your eq folder you can simply make one with notepad. Has a single number, from 1-15.

Worthwhile to play with this I have found.

You can google it and find various discussions.

This is very interesting - something I'll tinker with after the weekend. I did search around to see what people discussed about it and here was my takeaway...

When did these discussions happen?
A lot of them in the 2002-2003 range.

What does that imply?
This tweak was used before Titanium (2006) and Underfoot (2009).

Further reading showed that the min value is 1.0, default 5.0, and the max 9.0. Rafe, I couldn't find where you saw values up to 15.0 - and I mention it, because my reading showed that a value above the max of 9.0 would cause the default value of 5.0 to be used. So, going that high could be counterproductive to the tweaking cause. Also, people stated that the value in the datarate.txt file should show to one significant figure, i.e. add the '.0'.

Does it work with Titanium and Underfoot clients? I don't know, but I will try using 9.0 later and report. Who knows if it'll help but cool post, thanks Rafe.

Well I can remember tinkering with it over the years and yes at some point it was no longer there but...it still works...at least it has a perceptible influence on my disconnects and desynch rates.

My hunch is they may have dropped it out like an oil pressure gauge on a car and replaced it with an "idiot light" ...standard setting. I don't recall it going back to default after 9, I've read people setting it at 25 back in the day. Here I've found with boxing that it is better to go with slow and reliable that fast and glitchy. Currently I have mine set at 3. But then I'm on a 10 mbps connection.

I have found that you can edit and change values in DataRate.txt while EQ is running and the effects seem immediate.

Thanks for the interest.
