Can't Connect: Unknown Error

I've been playing on custom servers for quite some time now, and I know that they are prone to issues here and there. I have run into one this morning that has stumped me quite well. I load up the game from my desktop (which has worked for a very very long time), I log in (acct and pw info are accepted), I am shown the list of servers as well as their populations - however upon trying to log into ANY of them I receive the message, "An unknown error has occurred while trying to join the server."

This is the same error I receive attempting to connect to ANY of the custom servers in the server list. I have restarted my computer, checked my host file, double checked my patching, and I can't figure out what could be causing this issue. I can clearly log in and see all servers listed, but I cannot join any of them.

**EDIT** I have also noticed that it says I have 0 of 0 expansions. I have seen this previously when I had a problem with my UI not wanting to load because of some missing .xml files that mysteriously got deleted. I have dealt with that twice now.

I am using the Underfoot client. Is this not a good client to use for THF? This past week seems to have been more trouble with the client than anything. Should I start from scratch? I hope someone out there has run into this before and knows what the problem is.

0 out of 0 expansions is a fairly normal thing. Since you say multiple emu servers, I'm guessing you aren't using THF's private login server. I would suggest doing that and seeing if issue goes away.

I am starting from scratch to clear up any kind of complication with some old p99 files under a different install, and any possible missing files or other errors within the Underfoot install. I am currently re-extracting my Underfoot client. What is and how do I use the private log in server? I've simply always just edited the host file and I was able to work the client without errors. It usually says I own all expansions when I log in - however the past few times I've had some errors this week it went to 0. I figured the best thing to do would be to start from the ground up. If you would be so kind as to help walk me through this process I would be eternally grateful my friend. I have an above basic understanding of computers and I know a little about programming but this baffled me, EQ has been the bane of my existence for a week now. Thank you for your help and support.

These are my typical steps of install:

1) Unzip EQ Underfoot
2) Edit host File
3) Patch with THF patcher
4) Create eqgame.exe shortcut
5) Add patchme to the end of the shortcut under properties
6) Enjoy

however there has not been much enjoyment lately with these back and forth issues. Thanks again for the assistance. It does not go unappreciated.

I have unzipped Underfoot into a location within my program files (I do not have a copy of LIVE on the computer to reduce complications) and I will await instructions so I don't mess anything up if I've been doing something wrong the whole time.

Well, I figured it out how to get the private server login for JUST The Hidden Forest. I will have to restart my toons it seems since I don't have access to them anymore being that it is another unique log-in. Unless there's a way to link my EqEmu accounts to the private THF login that I am unaware of. If there is please let me know so my bard doesn't go to waste. If not, it's okay I can start a new group of toons.

I have now completely reinstalled. I updated through the patcher, added map files and a custom UI from this website. Everything works, however I get a message still when I log in, inside of my chat window and it says "Your XML files are not compatible with current Everquest files, certain windows may not perform correctly. Use /loadskin Default 1 to load the EverQuest default skin.

I have ignored this, set up my UI, and had no problems so far ( im only lvl 1 on a brand new account.

Does anyone know what this is, how to fix it, or if it's actually a problem or just a nuisance message.

My UI has said that for the past 4+ years.

Typically it's just a fragment of the UI that you are using that is not supported by the specific client. Mine for example is a SoD Client UI but I use it on an UF client. So it throws some errors in the chat window when I log in. For the most part though, the UI works for what I need.

Okay, that makes me feel a little bit better. I've set up 2 of my toons so far and everything seems to be running smoothly.

I was able to copy my UI from one toon to the other with no problem, and it seems that all windows are working accordingly.

Here's to starting over i've had a much better experience so far by logging directly into THF rather than through EqEmu.

I'll keep yall updated if things change.

2. If you have an EqEmu account, register (link it) with our private THF Login Server if you haven't yet. You can check if the account is linked already ingame with the #getlsinfo command.
To do so, log in to THF using the Public Login Server (as you would normally do to play). Once you are in game, run the following command #setlsinfo accountname password email
For example : #setlsinfo MyAccountName MyPassword myemail@email.com
You'll need to repeat this with all of your existing EqEmu accounts, can use the same email address for any account.

Make sure that the Mail address you use is valid and working!!!
