A Newbie's take

Hi all, Messatsu Hadouken here, 70 monk, and this is my first post on this forum. I just wanted to share a bit of my tale so far, as I have very much enjoyed my experience on THF so far.

First off- I loved the constant progression in 1-55. Always having an armor set to work on kept me playing, and trying to keep my paladin (Yes, I run monk/paladin for now, though I also have a cleric bot) geared alongside me has kept me busy through the levels. It was exciting to be so overpowered in the early levels and then hit 30 and suddenly having mobs be a challenge in Guk (I barely touched KC and only did Natimbi for the medallion quest) kept things refreshing.

Once I hit 55, I tried Sebilis and Naggy's lair, and eventually settled on Naggy's lair, as the mobs were a bit lower level. The nameds were very difficult, and I wasn't able to start taking them out until I was at least 60+, and usually it was with hackneyed strategies built on toothipicks and paperclips, but eventually I was able to even solo King Tranix at around 65, so I felt pretty good about myself, however I will admit I was disappointed to discover there was no visible armor set for 55-70. I was further disappointed to discover that Kael armor, which I was able to get some assistance in procuring, was only marginally better than, if not even to, my Guk armor, and didn't have any clickies until you went to Shadowhaven and upgraded it. All of these things wouldn't happen until a character was at 70, most likely.

Luckily for me, I was able to get a guild invite and had somebody run me through ToV and DSK, and I now have a mish-mosh of 200hp gear, 500hp gear, and 800hp gear. I was able to solo the Chardok Royals last night (died at queen but came back and did the old "burst damage the adds while queen hitting me, then FD, stand up, heal, burst-damage more adds" plan to clear the room first and beat her on second try) and got my charm upgrade. I was also able to solo my 1.5, but I think that goes without saying as that quest is very much soloable (which I love). Am looking forward to grouping up and getting my 2.0 and beyond, as well.

I enjoy the changes made to monks to keep their DPS in line with other classes, as I quickly maxed out my Wu extra attacks AA so I can spam death-kicks as much as possible. The added flurry strikes on regular attacks are also very welcome. It's nice to be able to do so much burst damage, although I will admit it's semi-random.

If I could make one suggestion, I would love to see the alternate progression back up and running- I did my whole run to 70 solo with a bot, but I originally started with an SK on Alt-P, and was disappointed to hear it only went to 45. I had a blast on alt-P, but the lack of wiki support once I hit stonebrunt left me confused, especially with the permanent decision of siding with the Kobolds and the Kerrans and not knowing which choices offered me the best options as an SK. Alt-P offered some very unique items in comparison to the regular server, as well as tradeskill quests and lots of materials to work them up.

TL;DR: Server is fun, 55-70 armor progression is a bit weird, monks are cool, and a finished alt-P would be even cooler.

I think you've made some pretty great points :) . I think alt p was never finished because the GM that worked on it is no longer around but I could very well be wrong about that. Glad you're enjoying the server!

Mystickitty can't be improved on for greetings.

I think armor is nicely scaled on server, just gets a bit disorienting when you are given a boost by a guild. I enjoyed grinding through all the raid levels.

Personally I've never tried alternative advancement on this server...speed is so fast through 45 or so doesn't seem worth it.

I do look forward to someday seeing zones open up that I enjoyed on live.

Welcome!
