THF players:

Don't abuse it. Just don't. In NV, we it make very clear that we will not tolerate warping and the like. I would highly recommend those of you who are officers or guild leaders, at the very least, discuss making it your guild policy to do the same.

This is a really big change in policy, so lets police it ourselves as best we can, so that Lillu and the Dev team wont have to.

I personally welcome this change, and would like to see it stay.

Its not so much the macroing/mq2 stuff I'm excited about - I'm a noob when it comes to MQ2. I'm more excited about the idea of keystroke broadcast proggies i.e. hotkeynet etc, that let me stay playing in one window and control my crew from that one window via a simple script and hotkeys, without tabbing away. (can mq2 do that?)

Also, out of curiosity, could there be a subforum added for discussion of these third party proggies?

Seems like that might be a good resource in the long run, for how to do what, and perhaps some very clear and evolving stickies of what NOT to do. This is a really big change, so it stands to reason that lines may have to be drawn and redrawn over time.

Perhaps even link to it from the server rules page, if such a thing is created?

I think this is a great move. 99% of the server is mature enough to not over abuse this rule. Im like Blique though, Im a complete idiot when it comes to MQ. I know about the stick command, and the map feature, and thats about it. So it would be nice to have some one with alittle knowledge of the program, give some basic explanation of features to use for boxxing.

yes, there is a plugin that comes with the default install package called bccmd. it's a really cool/powerful tool that is for broadcasting to your company. i have used other boxing tools before, and while i definitely liked some things about them, mq2/bccmd is turning out to be my favorite. with bccmd you can create in game hotkeys eg. "/hot eryonestick!" then within the hotkey you write lines that utilize bccmd's crazy sweet broadcasting abilities to make everyone else target your main. then /stick to him. thats the tip of the iceburg, as there is so much functionality packed in there.

everyone please have fun and be careful, do your research. i'm really looking forward to the future of mq2 related dialogue around here. it's a nifty tool for company boxers. no wait, it's an art form.

Alrighty then. MQ2, interesting stuff I guess. I haven't any idea what it is fully capable of, much less how to implement it all just yet. Now, I'm normally the type that prefers self sufficiency, so I'll learn everything that I can on my own; however, I haven't any idea where to obtain the program.

Could one of our own MQ2 veterans post the URL for the "official?" site/location for obtaining this? That asked, I -never- assume when it comes to programs like MQ2 (i.e. no big corporation, etc.) that "mq2.com" or "mq2.org" or "macroquest.com" etc, are the "official" links. Between knowing that and the great server population that exists at THF, I'm sure no one will say "google is your friend" right? (because I'm positive the sites setup with a compiled version of MQ2, with malicious intent will gladly claim they are the official site - rendering google, somewhat useless)

I'm going to go ahead and play devil's advocate here (because that's what I'm best at). No disrespect to Lillu, Vaion, Micah, or Tyler. IMO this is a little far. As a person who 7 boxes on one laptop without the use of any illicit software I feel that this is an unnecessary decision. I also feel that openly stating in the rules that macroquest is "allowed" is going to lead to a lot of people doing exactly those things mentioned (warping, GKing, macroing, etc), and therefore (hopefully) getting banned soon after. Call me pessimistic but I don't believe people are all that good at knowing where to draw the line.

IMO there's no reason for this, I think it will potentially damage the integrity of the server by allowing the use of third party software, you can make a game that favors everyone and allows for a less stressful approach to EQ perfectly without the use of these programs (and I believe you had successfully done that already).

I know I'm going to get flak for this, I can take it, and I figured I'd post it here, but I'd like some feedback on everything I just said. I have a bad feeling about what this is going to lead to. I'm not trying to sound rude but I hope the server is very very very closely monitored from this point forward to make sure this isn't abused, and you can bet that if I find people warping around everyone will be hearing about it very soon

Using /stick alone is a huge improvement to boxing, specially if someone isn't playing on a Nasa mainframe. This is the main reason we wanted to amend the rules. We also stated, than other than /stick, we do not encourage anyone using 3rd party programs (macroing) because it can easily spoils the fun.

As for cheating, well I don't think we'll be more busy banning players than before. The exploit features of the 3rd party programs are detected and logged server side. Micah and Vaion love to read those logs.

Just going to throw this in here...

2 accounts have already received a 3 day suspension as of today (new policy just went in this morning) for Afk macroing. I highly advise everyone that thinks they are smooth or tricky enough to get away with it to think again. My new logging system will catch you.
