I looked into this awhile back and it was something to do with the actual cast time of the spell or item. I have some notes on it in my notebooks at home (at work right now), but from what I could figure out is that there was no way to make it universal. I still have it on my "to look at" list but its not something that I think is going to be an easy fix.
If I'm able to isolate the packet data that is sent which makes the item grey out, then it may be doable to manipulate it, but I haven't taken the time to break down the packet structures and really dig to much deeper than I already did when I noticed it was related to the cast time.
Oh the fun you all are going to have in DSK3...
