You can use the Underfoot client, but you'll need quite a few files from older clients and / or the live client to make it EQEmu-usable, as the UF client doesn't have those files that these servers use. The Underfoot client is the best, imo.
Sadly I was an idiot and decided to delete my patched UF client (to reinstall a fresh UF off Steam) before realizing that I needed files off live, as my copy of Titanium doesn't have quite all of the necessary files. Since SOE is down and thus you can't patch the game, I can't get my hands on some of the required files.
Now while I'm using Titanium to play, it unfortunately lacks several important features.
First, the Titanium client doesn't have a character creation screen that lets you make a Drakkin, so on those servers (not sure if THF has them) which allow Drakkin, you can't pick them.
Second, and FAR more importantly to me, the Titanium client doesn't have the option to set the background CPU usage of the client... which means that anyone who multiboxes with the Titanium client basically cannot use autofollow. Autofollow is framerate limited, and the clients that aren't the current, active window have their framerate set extremely low.
In short this means that with the Titanium client autofollow is impossible, because at such a low framerate anyone on autofollow will begin running in circles, veering off in random directions, and even when it works their turn rate is so low that you have to take baby steps with the "lead" character so the other character(s) don't make a right turn so wide it'd make a semi truck jealous.
Since I sometimes six-box (yes, without any third party programs; not as hard as many think, primarily a matter of picking characters that are fire-and-forget or easily simplified into macro hotkeys, and of course positioning your party appropriately), this is obviously a huge deal for me. I can't wait for SOE to come back online so I can get the UF client running. At the moment I have to run every single character one at a time.
The Titanium client is also missing some other features, but none I can think of that are that significant.
In short, Titanium works, but I'll be upgrading to the UF client as soon as I can patch with my active, live subscription again.
I've heard that some clients don't have access to certain AAs, but I haven't run into that personally. But I'm sure it's true.
