Berserker Disc Guide (help please)

Hey all,
sifted the forums but couldn't find a specific Zerker guide on which discs to use and when it's best to use them.

If there's a thread already, i apologize (delete this thread please) and would appreciate you pointing me to it. Thanks .. =)

I'm here because i'm new to the Zerker Class and i "think" i like it, due to its nature which is, or should be, DPS and nothing else.

But honestly i'm having trouble interpreting the disc descriptions and their function when used. I'm not a hardcore player with lots of time to parse and test, wish i could scrounge up more time to play tho.

So, to all ya Zerkers out there:
1) Which discs are you using?
("all" of them, or just the ones over 61, or just the "best" 3, or the latest 5, or?)
2) What are they doing?
(really short explanation will suffice, and in some cases the ingame description is all right)
3) And when do you "hit that button"?
(Boss disc only, as soon as it pops up, when close to dying - stuff like that)

I hope it's not like we have to juggle 20 discs around, that would turn me off, but i don't think that's gonna be the case with Zerkers. More like a good handful or few more maybe. Was also looking for a "Class Guide Sub-forum", but it either doesn't exist or i'm blind (and i won't argue with that, heh).

Thanks in advance and stay frosty all,
Caustic

Like most melee dps, you will probably only have a handful of disciplines naturally (i.e. not coming from an item). If your client supports it a good way to decide what to put on your alt+c disc bar is to right click on it. A little list should pop out, allowing you to select discs based on their timer. What you use can come down to preference, but will usually be the longest duration defensive or offensive ability. You will have a short duration buff that ups your crit chance as well, but it doesn't stack with some later spells that other classes get.

It has been a while since i played a beserker (two years), so I don't know exact names, but from what I can remember your bar will look something along the line of:: A 60 sec group crit buff, Destroyer's? Volley (throws 4 "axes" regardless of what you have in ranged slot), a once per thirty mins group buff, a once per thirty crippling blow disc, a once per thirty damage boost (Blind Rage?), and once per thirty riposte disc. These are your staples for the Berserker class. In t7 you will get use out of fearless, and the different "axe" snares and whatnot have their limited use when you're out and about. If there are others on THF before T8 I don't personally know of them.

Have fun slaughtering things with that f' off shiny two hander sir.

Edit: One more thing. The focus "enhancement", which increases the duration of beneficial spells, affects disciplines with a duration. So "when to push the kill button" will change over time. You can get minutes out of some good discs later, so depending on the encounter you can squeeze quite a bit of dps out of that shiny axe. Test it out.

Thanks Reid! The small pop up window is helping indeed .. but still there are a lot of discs to choose from with various timers and such. But .. im getting into the swing of things. Guess there's no real other way but test it all out. Uhhh, i hate that.

Honestly, i had hoped for a Zerker to pop in and just let me know what he is using mostly and when. Yeah i know, that's lazy .. =/

But since i discovered that i have the obscure talent of choosing the absolute wrong "things" over the obviously "right ones" in cases like this, i figured asking won't hurt. Can't explain it really. For example, with 98% of the new MMOs one usually has tons of talents/skills/abilities to choose from and mix them together to make "your build". No matter how much time i invest, i end up picking the wrong ones, mostly. It's really really weird and i just hope i'm not the only one.

So sooner or later i'm sifting the forums for good builds since i'm lacking the nose or instinct for the solid ones, haha.

So, thanks again.
Your help is much appreciated!

That's just it sir, there really isn't any building involved. You're thinking too Blizzard and not enough Verant.

Melee discs aren't known for their variety. Each class has a handful that serve a specific purpose. Using the highest level of the disc in that particular line is the way to go, as each level is slightly better than the one before it. The only time there are exceptions are when you have two of the same level and one says "Ancient: Abilityname", in which case this is usually better than its same level counterpart.

The reason why i said to use the drop down list is that more than one type of skill can be linked to the same timer. If you have two hotbuttons of abilities on the same timer up, ad you use one, the other will grey out as well. This is true for the drop down for Discipline 1 - ?

You will have other abilities, either under misc or some other heading that will either be on their own timer, or will be linked to similar or previous level abilities. Your short duration buff and destroyer's volley are two such abilities, as they can be used frequently to boost your damage.

The more I think about it the more it comes back to me, but as I mentioned in the previous post my old disc hotbar looked like: Cry Havoc, Destroyer's Volley, Blind Rage, Cleaving Rage, Reckless, and Fearless.

To this I add that you have two war cries (group buffs) that stack, but i forget the names, and Unpredictable Rage.

You may be able to pull up more info from the berserker class forums

If you right click the discipline window hotbuttons you will be able to select disciplines based on timer.

I know nothing about the class but I have found that understanding what items are on what timers will make your decisions easier.

Oh, and so does listening to Primus.

On a side note - I was listening to Primus last time I played my rogue and got what seemed like a 5k AC/HP/attack buff. Mobs were dyin quick... but then again I was fighting mobs in Misty Thicket... just test it out.
Thanks for the memories.

Thanks again!
It's getting better now and easier .. =)

The drop-down menue is really helpful, as welll as you guys of course.
Just i don't have the slightest clue what Deadspirit is talking about, but oh well.

Had to switch classes in the meantime, but that doesn't change a thing. I still would have had to post in here.
Oh and btw .. the link to the "goberserker" Forum doesn't work.

It was missing a /

I'm sorry to hear you switched classes. Berserker are the best melee dps, and their t8 discs are miles better than the other melee counterparts.

I always here how well monks dps are as far as melee classes go. Being a monk myself I can vouch and say our DPS is great. I have messed around on a buddies rogue who is t6'ed geared with donor dagger and I am mix geared everything from t3-t6 myself with monk 2.8 and xegony's fist (both over dmg70 with augs) and I feel like I am pulling more dps than him just by looking at dmg output and the dmg on attacks. I haven't ran numbers on my dps meter.

Now my question is, how do berserkers compete against monks, rogues and ranger's ( ranged or melee) as far as melee dps goes?

I know on live, around SoD expac I was playing a 75 monk with 1.5 and a nice weap in other hand with pretty decent gear and had a good friend who played a berserker. Before we got our 1.5's I was out dpsing him (had logs and dps meter) , but after both getting 1.5's he was smoking me. Same here?

from what ive seen @ the end game:
Melee dps:

Zerker > Rogue > Monk (my rogue and monk are often tied tho on parses or within a few hundred dps of each other if that).

prior to t8, Monks > Rogues, or Rogues > Monks. it varies greatly with non donored characters. From what ive seen with the donors tho, the monk one would put them well ahead of Rogues. kind of dependson the fight usually and gear. but the end game assessment there is pretty set in stone for non-donored T8 geared toons.
