I am looking at various augs and trying to figure out how to best equip my rogue but I am mildy confused as to how the modifiers work.

I assume that if a weapon has 20% to backstab and you have another item that has 18% then you get a total of 20%. How does this work the backstab damage modifiers?

IE does the damage on the donor aug stack with the pristine green ornament and other items or does it just take the highest damage number you have and apply that as it does with skill %, if it does add them together is there a cap?

If i had a donor aug is there any point collecting other items with + backstab damage or am I just wasting my time?

It takes the highest value backstab damage modifier and applies that.

Up until about three weeks ago, it used to only take the backstab damage modifier from your mainhand, but it was changed to the above.

So if you get the donor aug, that's all you'll ever need and you can ignore all other backstab damage modifications.

I don't mean to nitpick but your post is confusing. You write "backstab modifier", which implies skill mod, but I think you are talking about +Backstab DMG. Your knowledge is extensive and much appreciated - I just thought it best to clarify since it is an often confused subject.

I could have been a bit more clear, I agree The OP referred to it as "damage modifier" and the question was about that specifically, so my response was related only to that. Edited, for clarity.

I guess i have to rework my augs now but I can stop searching for new backstab mods.

I was under the impression it takes the highest backstab modifier from an item as a whole. So if you have 5 augs with +Backstab damage and they're all in your main-hand, and you have a belt or something that has a lower +Backstab damage amount, it will count only your mainhand. That doesn't mean that any other augs in that mainhand besides your donor aug are worthless, though, as they add up together to be more backstab damage on that item slot, and the new code searches for the highest slot and uses that. It sounded like you were saying that only the one aug will count?

I personally understood what Vaion said on the other thread that only the highest BS bonus will be taken into account. Before it was limited to the BS bonus of the primary weapon, now it's not limited only to that specific slot.

I didn't mean to infer otherwise as I don't know either way if the final value is taken as a cumulative from a slot, or only the highest individual value on any item. I think I misunderstood the original question, I didn't realise he was asking whether it stacked on a single slot. My answer was meant to say he can ignore other slots, as having the donor aug is by far and away the highest valued item with this statistic.

So if that is his question, I don't know the answer. But much like in the last thread, seeing as most other modifiers tend to use only the highest value, rather than the cumulative total, I always assumed the following:

Item has +10 backstab damage
Add an aug with +5 backstab damage
Add an aug with +20 backstab damage
Total backstab damage = 20

Not 35.

But I might be wrong.

This is true, but the update doesn't say bonus, it says "item"; moreover, it still doesn't clarify if the bonus stacks on a single item, which I believe is what the OP is asking (at least I think so )

In the thread that triggered the change, I don't believe this was confirmed; only that it was limited to the mainhand and subsequently changed to being any "item". We can assume that means any slot, but I'm not sure it's confirmation that a single slot can have a value higher than its highest individual effect.

Given how dmg from augs stacks on weapons, I'd imagine that Backstab damage on augs + the weapon's backstab damage would stack. My rogue (nilbie) mainhand shows an ingame backstab damage value of 267 backstab damage

65 (weapon) + 95 (donor aug 1) + 2 (dsk2 piercing aug) + 105 (donor aug 2) = 267
