does it help to have muti copys of the game files when boxing? I.E. a copy of the game files for each toon you play, or does that not matter so much now with newer OS's and such, think it helped back in the day on live.

Strangely, I was reading on the wineq2 wiki last night about this very question. It said that 99% of the time having multiple installs wont make it faster. You can use wineq2 to have custom ini files for each character so that you can utilize different clip plane settings on different characters, turn sound on/off, etc.

http://www.lavishsoft.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ

Make individualized ini files per character by right clicking on the wineq2 system tray icon-->options-->preferences-->profiles-->"Character_name_01"-->EQClient.ini

If you're looking to improve performance I suggest trying the Underfist client. It uses about 20% less ram for me than Titanium and zones/boots up considerably faster. Also try fps limiting on background windows. I haven't gotten it to work but I heard it improves performance. You can do this in the SoD or UF client advanced options or in wineq2(I think you need premium).

I use a single install. I really don't think it is necessary to have more. I also have custom ini settings for each character so screen 2 has no spell effects etc.

Oh yes and I agree that limiting fps on non active windows helps a lot.

honestly mutliple installs of the game unless they are on different hard drives can cause more lag than less, based on my testing of 12 boxes loading across 4 hard drives (3 clients per hard drive) i noticed less lag than i did with 12 clients running on my main hard drive, not to mention the general heat issues related to it all.

tho my SSD drive ran the multiple clients very well, but i noticed zero improvement overall, which leads me to say its best to run on 1 client, and just use WINEQ2 to manage multiple INI files for your characters.
