Lillu, I hope you don't mind me posting about this here, but I am trying to spread the word as quick as possible since the sale ends this Friday. If you have a problem with the post, feel free to delete it:
BUY Seeds of Destruction NOW!!!
I have started work on getting the Everquest: Seeds of Destruction expansion from Steam to be compatible with EQEmu. Currently, it is on Sale only until Friday, March 26th for $2.50 from Steam here:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/24130/
After the sale, I am not sure what price it may go up to, but it may return to the price of $19.99, so get it now while it is on sale if you think you may want to try the new client once it is working with EQEmu!!!
The client currently can't even log into the EQEmu Login Server yet, but we are working on that and hope to have that working soon. Once it is working with the Login Server, I will be working to update the current source on the SVN to get it compatible with EQEmu. There are no guarantees that it will ever be functional with EQEmu at this time, but I am pretty sure we can get it working in a short amount of time. It could even be functional within the next week or 2. From what I can tell so far, it looks like the SoD client will be much more stable than the SoF client is, and maybe even better than Titanium is since they added multi-core CPU support among other great features.
Normally, I wouldn't recommend buying an expansion like that that isn't even functional with EQEmu as-of-yet, but at the price of $2.50, it is a small risk to pay. I am pretty confident that we can get it working, and anyone out there should be able to afford the price. If we are unable to get it working with EQEmu, then I apologize, but at least you are only out $2.50. My main reason for even mentioning this is to potentially save you guys a good chunk of money if you want the new client.
Since it is a digital download, that means you will be able to get it instantly instead of having to wait for it to come in the mail. I highly recommend making a copy of the install folder somewhere on your hard drive (or burn it to a DVD) so you will have a backup in case you mess the client up or need to install it fresh again at some point.
I am excited to get this new client going with EQEmu. I think it has the potential to not only add access to new content including 20 new zones, 40 new NPC races, and dozens of new weapon models among other game features, but also has the potential to be the most stable and bug-free client that EQEmu has ever seen. Only time will tell for sure, but my hopes are high at this point from what I have seen so far. Stay tuned for more news on this new client version, and get your copy before the sale ends!
